Principal's Letter
Dear OLG Families,

This week I am again reminded of what an amazing place OLG is. Yesterday we had fabulous students leading our Lent prayer service in the hallways. Parents have been in and out all week with preparations for Auction, the 100th day of school celebration in Kindergarten, and help with class fieldtrips to the Mount and a visit from Oxbow farms. Staff preparing conferences and working on curriculum last Friday. All this and a late start to boot, with Sal & Heidi de-icing the sidewalks and making it a safe beginning of today.

In terms of safety, I wanted to take a moment to address the topic that's been in the news so much this past week. We prepare our students for intruders both in the building and on the playground. Our staff are trained in lockdown procedures, knowing to move their students away from door/windows, etc. On the playground, students practice the whistle signals to drop and shelter in place, and know how to listen to directions that playground monitors give. We are present and watchful. Feel free to reach out to me if you have further questions about our safety plans and response.

This week the newsletter has some great reads in it! Sure there is the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry tomorrow, but I'm really excited about our Auction! It's the last chance to get your tickets HERE! An incredible team of folks have been working hard on bringing the Auction to life this year; I look forward to seeing you all in the Walmesley Center. And if you can't make the auction, we also have our State of the School coming up and several other excellent events below that keep us all humming! See you soon!
Yours in Christ,

Anton Kramer

Pizza Friday Update
Does your child love Pizza Fridays? Are you an energetic, organized individual looking for a fun way to earn commitment hours? If so, we have the job for you!

The Parent Org is looking for one or two people to coordinate Pizza Fridays for the 2018-19 school year. This is a great way to see your child on Fridays, help to earn money for our school, and earn you 50 commitment hours. If you would like more information, please contact Jennifer Dempsey. Jennifer would be happy to have you shadow her this year to learn the ropes.

Are you looking for ways to complete your commitment hours for this year?
You are always welcome to help serve pizza on Pizza Fridays. We have 11 left in the school year, and it's a fun and easy way to earn an hour (11:15am-12:15pm) of volunteer time per week. Contact Jennifer Dempsey for more information.
SCRIP Gift Cards
A few changes to note! We are now accepting Scrip orders the first Friday of every month. Turn SCRIP order forms in anytime during the month, but everything will be processed that "first Friday". We are hoping this allows families to better plan ahead for the month and make their card purchases all at once. Please email Danielle with questions.

Can't wait? EScrip is active!  Sign up for an account which links your bank account to Scrip. Order conveniently from home anytime, recharge current scrip cards, or download scrip directly to your phone or printer! Please email Danielle for our school enrollment code.

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl: Encounter Cesia
We encounter Cesia in Nicaragua, where, despite a lack of economic opportunity, young people pursue their dreams by building businesses to better their lives. How can you work to improve the lives of others this Lent? How can you support those, worldwide, who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities? Visit crsricebowl.org for more. This week take a look at the meatless recipe from Nicaragua. Consider making a simple Rice Bowl recipe each Friday this Lent and donating what you would have spent on a meal to your Rice Bowl.

Bystander Intervention Workshop
What would you do if you saw someone being harassed in a public setting? Often we don’t know what to do at the time and then later think of things we could have said or done. You are invited to a Bystander Intervention Workshop on Sunday, 2/25 from 2-3:30pm at Admiral Congregational UCC (4320 SW Hill Street) to learn how to safely take action to help someone being harassed. The workshop will be led by Pastor Andrew Conley-Holcom from Admiral Congregational UCC who roots his workshop in the Theatre of the Oppressed, which utilizes theatre games to explore, disrupt, and reformulate power relationships. All are invited.  Click here for more.

Couldn’t Make it to Catholic Advocacy Day this Year? Raise your Voice from the Comfort of Home!
Last Wednesday, hundreds of Catholics from across the state journeyed to Olympia to put their faith into action through advocacy. We know not everyone could make this weekday trip but there’s good news…you can still advocate for just policies from your home or office. Simply visit the Washington State Catholic Conference website and click on “Join our Advocacy Network”. You can also view the 2018 Legislative Priorities and call the FREE Legislative Hotline in Olympia (1-800-562-6000) to add your voice to the movement. From Homelessness, Housing and Assistance to Families to Abolishing the Death Penalty and Opposing the Abortion Insurance Mandate, there’s much work to be done during this short session.
