During the week of Halloween, we often see a dip in produce sales. Many studies report that it’s natural for most parents to think that kids prefer candy and junk food. However, with the emergence of so many healthy snack options that are both tasty and healthy, these studies found that flavor — not sugar — is what matters most with kids. There are many ways to make fruits and vegetables more fun and tasty.
So instead of throwing in the towel on healthy eating this week, stock up on some of these produce items:
- Purple Cauliflower
- Mandarin Satsumas
- Carrots
- Celery
- Avocado
- Apples
- Pears
- Bananas
- Pumpkin
- Sweet Potato
- Beets

2015 Judith Beck
Ink
Burgenland, Austria
|
SALE PRICE $14.39
Grape Varietal: 90% Zweigelt, 10% St. Laurent
Designation: Biodynamic
Notes: Dark ruby in color with a violet rim. Fresh aromas of pronounced sour cherry fruit and spices, such as cinnamon and cloves. The juicy palate holds soft tannins and an elegant spiciness on the finish. Great balance of fruit, acidity and structural texture with this beautifully made wine!
Drink if you enjoy: Medium bodied red wines like Garnacha/Grenache, Merlot and Syrah. Judith says “Wine and the joy of living and pleasure all go hand in hand. We prefer wines which captivate all of our senses with each new bottle and each new sip.”

Château La Tour
Grise Les Fontenelles
Loire Valley, France
|
SALE PRICE $23.39
Grape Varietal: 100% Chenin Blanc
Designation: Biodynamic
Notes: A fresher style of “Orange” wine. Made with Chenin Blanc grape, which typically produces delicious white wine. The winemaker leaves the skins in contact with the juice to impart more color, tannins and over all structure. The result? Pleasant dry straw, gold and green apple flesh with river stone minerality. Recommended for decanting and tartaric crystals maybe present in bottle and on cork. The wine will age well in cellars.
Drink if you enjoy: A new experience! Well made white wines with complex profiles and structure!

Building 8 (BLDG8)
Brewing The Double IPA
Northampton, MA
|
SALE PRICE $16.19
India Pale Ale, 8.2% ABV, Bitterness: 88 IBUs
Another entry from the young, IPA-specialist local brewery in Northampton, MA who’s first three IPAs have been very well-received. The Double is clear amber with a two plus inch white head which receded slowly to thick surface foam and dense lacing. It has a fairly intense pine resin from the glass on the nose. The taste follows the nose but moderately over a medium biscuit/bready malt base, encouraging a bigger swallow. It has a dry finish with virtually no lingering bitterness. Medium to full with great body and medium carbonation tingle. Perhaps more of a West coast style than NE IPA, but a great one which is surprisingly easy drinking for a double but no slouch in the hop bitterness and flavor department either.
