Summer is filled with vacations, activities, and family gatherings, but it is also important to keep kids reading so they don't lose skills. If you find yourself running out of choices, or your child readily rejects any book you may suggest, send them to the links below. In my experience, choice is one of the biggest motivating factors. Instead of suggesting one or two books to fit all students in each grade, here are some websites that are easily navigated to fit your child better.
This is my favorite. You can choose books by a topic in which your child holds the most interest. There are suggested book titles for that topic, activities for that topic, and websites too! So just click on the red "See All Topics" button and choose something your child loves!
Birth through 8th grade printable lists from the Association for Library Services to Children (ALA).
Themed book lists. Choices have age and author information.
Book finder allows you to limit your choices. Beware that if you make too many choices you will get few to zero book results.
Birth through YA (young adult) books from Scholastic.
Have a great summer and don't forget the public library. They have great incentive programs, and you can download books with your library card for free!
Have a great summer and keep reading,
