News from The Episcopal Cafe
From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

It is hard to believe that summer has come to end and that we are kicking off another wonderful program year here at St. Mary's.  This Sunday the Choir will be back with us ready to provide another year of great awe-inspiring music.  I am sure that Sandy, our director, has a great Sunday planned for us that you don't want to miss.   Children's Worship will begin on September 17th.  If you are interested in assisting Catherine Carroll with this wonderful program please let me know or you can contact Catherine directly.  Children's Worship meets during the regular 10:00 a.m. worship in the church school wing. This is a great way for our kids to learn what the liturgy is all about in addition to learning the stories of the bible.  Older youth are also welcome to sign up as helpers for Children's Worship.  The children join us in the church at communion.

Please mark your calendar for the McHenry County CROP Walk. This is a wonderful tradition in our parish that you don't want to miss.  There are a few ways you can participate.  You may walk with us on Sunday, Oct 1 (there is a one mile walk or a four mile walk).  You may go online to register or you can go online and make a donation only to CROP Walk for the St. Mary's Episcopal Church team.  Our goal this is $1,100.00.  The CROP Walk money this year will fund the Food Pantries of McHenry County. Mike Choquette will be at Church on Sunday September 24 after the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. services to take donations as well. Please click here to donate and/or walk.

Our next  Free Community Meal is happening on  Saturday September 16th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  This is a great way to meet people, and have fabulous food.  If you wish to volunteer please contact Tracy Higgins .   A free will offering is taken for those who wish to contribute.  I want to thank everyone who has attended and contributed time and effort to this program.   The meal committee reports that over 85% of the parish is involved, which is truly overwhelming, and I give great thanks to all those who have worked so hard to make it happen.

Some of you have been asking when you can put in your pledge for 2018.  The answer is "now is the time".   The pledge drive will officially kick off on Sunday Oct. 15, but there is no time like the present to make a pledge.  Most of you realize that it is our pledge dollars that fund our budget.  Please pray about what you can give to support this wonderful parish in the coming year.   If you are not yet pledging we will be in contact with you as we are striving once again for 100% participation, and I know that we will get there.   I realize that people have been gone over the summer so just a gentle reminder to get caught up with your 2017 pledge, as we rely on our pledges to cover our costs.   Thank you for you generosity and commitment to this Parish. If you want a pledge card now you may get one off the back table and we will also make more available on Oct. 15th.

If you are in need of pastoral care please do not hesitate to contact me or call the office and speak with Amy about setting up a time when we can meet.  I know that many times people think they are bothering me, and nothing could be farther from the truth.  I regard pastoral care as the most important part of my work here as your priest.

We are seeking people to join the Altar Guild , which sets up and cleans up our "communion dishes" after services.  It is very simple and requires just 10 minutes after one service, one Sunday a month.  It is a simple quick way to volunteer and we will train you.  Please contact me if you can help out.  I truly appreciate all the people hours that our Altar Guild has given over the years and I realize it is a labor of love.  Thank you to our magnificent guild members.

See you Sunday
Fran +

THANK YOU!!

Many thanks to all who donated to Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) last weekend.  We received over $1600, which is earmarked for hurricane relief efforts.  Donations are still being accepted.  You may write a check to St. Mary's, with ERD in the memo line, and we will send one check to ERD.  There are also forms on Narthex table, which you may pick up and send a donation directly to ERD.  And, you can always make a donation online.

September Community Meal

You're invited to join us on  Saturday, September 16th for our next free , monthly  Community Meal .   Meals are served between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. Remember, this meal is open to anyone, and no RSVP is required. There is no charge for the meal, but free-will donations are appreciated.

As usual, Chef Tom has a delicious menu planned:  Caesar Salad, Chicken Pesto Pasta, Garlic Bread, Vegetable, and Dessert.   Yummy!!  Hope to see you on the 16th!
