News from The Episcopal Cafe
From the Rector

Dear Friends and Parishioners of St. Mary's,

This Sunday June 4 th , we will be celebrating the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost Sunday is one of the most ancient feasts of the Church, celebrated early enough to be mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (20:16) and In Paul's letter to community of Corinth (16:8). This feast is celebrated 50 days after Easter and marks the day when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and many other followers of Jesus who were gathered in Jerusalem. This feast also marks the birthday of the church. We will be renewing our baptismal covenant at the 8:00 a.m. service, and at the 10:00 a.m. service we will baptize Matthew James Bryant, the son of Elizabeth Mauger and Erik Bryant.   Elizabeth's father, The Rev. Leswing will be with us to do the baptism. Jim is a wonderful colleague and a priest in the Diocese of Chicago. Please wear red for this festive occasion.   I want to take this opportunity to thank the Choir for another year of music as this is their last Sunday with us until the fall. They are taking a very well deserved summer break.

Please mark your calendar for our Summer Lawn Chair Theologians gatherings, which will happen on the second Wednesday of every month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Weather permitting, we will be outside on the lawn near the circle drive. Bring a snack or beverage to share if you wish and your lawn chair.   Also bring a question or two that you would like us to discuss. The way this works is that we all contribute some questions we would like the group to talk about and then we pull a few out of a box for our discussion.   No preparation is needed, no question is wrong; if you don't have a question come anyway. Listen or contribute to the conversation as you wish.   We will do our best to cover as many topics as we can. Come enjoy the snacks, conversation and the outdoors. This month's gathering is on Wednesday June 14 th .

See you all on Sunday

St. Mary's Around the Town

On Thursday May 25th , Rev. Fran was invited to deliver the invocation at the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce Awards Dinner. The dinner was held at the Crystal Lake Country Club and is one of the largest annual gatherings of business owners, associates and leaders in McHenry County. Rev. Fran attended the event with other members of St. Mary's who are also business owners and active members of the chamber - Jeremy and Jody Kemp of Fast Signs, and Mike and Tracy Higgins of American Business Solutions.

On Wednesday May 31st , a group of ten parishioners from St. Mary's attended a community event and dinner at ICW, The Islamic Center of Wheaton. This was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Islam and to support our brothers and sisters celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.   Following a program of speakers we were able to observe the prayers and partake in a wonderful meal. The invitation to attend came from Ream, one of the presenters who came to St. Mary's coffee hour conversation on Sunday, May 7 th .   It was a great opportunity for St. Mary's to learn about and support the Muslim community most especially in this time of division in our nation.
