News from The Episcopal Cafe
From the Rector

Dear Parishioners  & Friends of St. Mary's,

It is hard to believe that we have entered into the month of August.  I know that many of you are preparing for your children to go back to school and gearing up for the fall.  Others of you are still traveling and taking time to enjoy the last weeks of summer.  Where ever you find yourself, be it in the midst of moving, traveling, gearing up for the fall, visiting family or following your usual routine of work, I pray that you will know and experience the presence of God.  It is all too common for us to think of God as only being present within the walls of the church building or only present during particular points in our lives.  However, the reality is that God is always present, always nearer to us than our own breath and always active.  All we have to do is risk seeing the holy in our everyday lives. In her book, An Altar in the World, Episcopal Priest and author Barbara Brown Taylor reminds us that the whole world is an altar of the holy.   All life encompasses God.  God is not separate from our work, our play, our gardening or our everyday mundane lives.  May you continue to experience the presence and peace of God each and every day.

If you are looking for ways to connect with others in the parish beyond Sunday's you may want to attend our next "Lawn Chair Theologians" gathering happening on August 9th at 7:00 p.m.  This is a great way to meet people, connect and to engage in interesting conversation regarding any number of spiritual and religious topics.  Also coming up is our August Community Meal  on Saturday, August 19 , from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Please plan on joining us for a great dinner and great hospitality.

Blessings,
Fran+

Pastor Fran Out of the Office

Fran will out of the office Friday,  August 4, until Monday, August 7 , attending family events in the southwest suburbs.   I f you have a pastoral emergency during this time please contact Amy Noe during office hours: 815-459-1009; Co-Warden, Cate Williams, at 815-354-4313 (cell); or Co-Warden, Marge Smith, at 630-817-0908 (cell).  They can contact the on-call priest if needed.

While Fran is away, Rev. Carolyn Bavaro will be our guest Preacher and Presider this Sunday.  Rev. Carolyn was with us back in May, and we look forward to having her with us again this weekend.

Forward Day-by-Day Available

The latest issue of Forward Day-by-Day, the Episcopal devotional guide to Bible reading, is now available on a Narthex table, priced as marked.  Please pick up a copy the next time you're in church.

The new issue covers the months of August, September, and October.

Looking for a cool treat to beat the heat in August?  Consider getting a frozen treat at the McDonald's in Crystal Lake (across from Five Guys).  Every day, during the month of August, a portion of their ice cream sales will enable the Food Pantry to purchase food and perishable items, and raise the awareness of hunger in our community.   Thanks for your support!
