News from The Episcopal Cafe

From the Rector

Dear Friends and Parishioners of St. Mary's,

This Sunday we will continue to celebrate the glorious 50-day season of Easter. The church marks Easter until we celebrate the coming of Holy Spirit, which this year is Sunday, May 20 th . Please join us as we continue to embrace the reality of the risen Lord and the new life that we are called to live into as individuals and as a community of faith. Please mark your calendars for our next Community Meal happening on Saturday, April 21st from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Invite friends and neighbors and come enjoy some great food.

This Sunday at our 8:00 a.m. service we will bless Kurt and Barbara Fritz as they prepare to make their move to Colorado.   Barb and Kurt and their family came to St. Mary's in April 1990. Their presence will be greatly missed and I wish to convey my deepest thanks for all of their help and ministry with this parish over the years.   We wish you all the best and may God's blessing be upon you and your family!

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Holy Week and Easter services so wonderful. Thank you to the altar guild and all those who assisted with the set up and clean-up of the church, to the ushers, acolytes, lectors, and servers who volunteered to help at all of our worship services, and to the choir and Sandy for the wonderful music throughout holy week and Easter. I also wish to thank all those who assisted with making our Easter Egg Hunt a wonderful event once again this year. We had many children from the community and many grandchildren and neighbors attending.   Thank you to everyone for your assistance.

On Saturday, April 28th  at 10:30 a.m. we will celebrate the life and ministry of our deacon, Barb Bishop . Many deacons from the around the diocese and country will be in attendance and the choir has prepared some glorious music for the occasion. Following the service and interment of ashes in The Churchyard we will have a catered lunch in the Great Hall. Please note that all of the food and dessert will be catered in for this special occasion but we do need help setting up tables on Friday, and we need people to set up beverage stations and coffee on the day of the event. Please contact me if you can lend a hand.

See you all on Sunday,
Fran +

Rev. Fran Out of the Office

Rev. Fran will be out of the office most the week, April 4-7 , attending the Province V Synod of the Episcopal Church, held at the Sheraton airport hotel. If you are in need of any assistance, please contact Amy in the office, or one of our Co-Wardens, Marge Smith or Tracy Higgins. They will be able to contact the on-call clergy if needed.

Quarterly Statements

moneybag_graphic.jpg The first quarter statements of contribution for all pledging members, are now available for pick-up on the Narthex table. Please pick up your statement, which will save the parish postage costs.  Thank you!
PADS Dinners

Whenever you did one of these
things for someone overlooked
or ignored, you did it for me.

St. Mary's is once again supporting the PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) program by providing meals at the PADS Shelters during the winter months. Our next Sunday to provide meals is April 15. We are looking for volunteers, including older youth, who would like to cook, shop, and/or serve the evening meal at Bethany Lutheran Church.   Thank you to Mary Frake who is coordinating the PADS Ministry for St. Mary's.

Please contact Mary and let her know how you can help.   Thanks for your support!

Summer Lunch Program Volunteers Needed:
High School Age and Older

The Crystal Lake Summer Lunch Program was started three years ago by volunteers with the help of the Crystal Lake Park District, in conjunction with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the Illinois Dept. of Education. Everyday, Monday through Friday , from the closing of school in June to the opening in August, children from Crystal Lake, ages 18 and under, are served free lunches at Ladd Park, from 11:30 - 12:30 . Lunch is followed with activities until 1:00 .   On days that are raining, or the temperatures are over 95 degrees, the program is held at Vineyard Christian Church.

These hours in Ladd Park are a taste of peace on earth. The children are happy and cooperative; the parents are friendly and grateful; the volunteers are generous and motivated; and the community is supportive in every way.   You may volunteer for as many days as you wish; we will work around your schedule. If you love children, this is a great opportunity!

Please email Mary Fox to register.
