From the Rector

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,

Every year at the end of January, Episcopal Parishes across the country gather to celebrate the ministries that they have been engaged in during the year, and to take care of some of the business details that it takes to run a parish. This Sunday we will gather at 9:00 a.m. to celebrate the Eucharist, and then we will share a brunch together as we hold our annual meeting for the parish. We will be electing new vestry members, and discussing and approving our 2017 budget and celebrating our ministries. This year we have so many things to give thanks for and so many blessings to celebrate.   Everyone is welcome to join us for the meeting and brunch. It is a great way to find out what is happening at St. Mary's.

Last week we kicked off our monthly Community Meal Program with an awesome fund raiser which engaged 50 plus volunteers and 73 diners, who gathered for conversation and a fabulous meal. Already we have engaged volunteers from outside our parish who are looking for ways to serve others, meet other people and make a difference in the community. The meal program is a very real and tangible way for us to live out our baptismal covenant and to be the church. I want to personally thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this ministry a reality here at St. Mary's.

I look forward to our time together on Sunday we have so much to give thanks for and so many wonderful people to thank.

Blessings,
Fran +

Don't forget! The Annual Parish Meeting will be held THIS SUNDAY , January 29.   There will be only ONE SERVICE at 9:00 a.m. Following the service, there will be a delicious all-parish BRUNCH , and then the business portion of the meeting, which should last 90 minutes or less.

If you haven't signed up for the brunch, it's not too late!! Just contact the office and let us know what you'd like to bring.   We could still use a few breakfast casseroles, breakfast meats, and fruit selections. (* You are welcome to join us for brunch, even if you are unable to bring a dish to pass.)

Please be sure to join us this day, as we reflect on 2016, elect new Vestry members, approve the 2017 budget, and look forward to great opportunities in the new year.

THANK YOU, ST. MARY'S !!!!

A huge THANK YOU to all who participated in our Community Meal fundraiser dinner last weekend. We had 50+ volunteers, including those who shopped, cooked, served, cleaned, and ran the event, and we served 73 meals!!   Dinner was delicious - a wedge salad, meat loaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, sautéed green beans, and fruit cobbler!

This is an amazing opportunity to reach beyond our walls and into the community. If you would like to volunteer, please sign up in the Great Hall, or speak with Rev. Fran, or Tracy Higgins.   Our free community meal will be offered the 3rd Saturday of every month, and ALL ARE WELCOME.

Please mark you calendars and be sure to  join us on Saturday, February 18!

Volunteers /
Animal Lovers Needed

On Angel's Wings Pet Rescue has asked for some help. They will be hosting two pet adoption events on Saturday, February 11th , and they are looking for some volunteers to help set up, handle the animals, and clean up at the events. The pet adoptions will be held at PETCO in Crystal Lake, and at HAHS (Hooved Animal Humane Society). They are looking for both youth and adult volunteers . * Youth, ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We will meet at 10:00 am at On Angel's Wings, 5186 Northwest Highway #133, Crystal Lake, to get our assignments and travel to the pet adoption centers. We should be back at On Angel's Wings by about 3:00 pm.

For more information or to volunteer please contact Mike Choquette at 815-793-9187.
