From the Rector
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mary's,
This Sunday we are celebrating "Thanksgiving Sunday" at one 9:00 a.m. service followed by a festive brunch. Let us come together to give thanks for all the blessings of this life and let us give thanks for this community of faith. Please note that our children's worship will be meeting this Sunday.
As we gather for our Thanksgiving service we are also asking that you turn in your pledge for 2017. Please prayerfully consider making a pledge for 2017 to St. Mary's. Your generous pledges will make it possible for us to reach out beyond our walls in new ways this coming year with our Community Meal Program. Your pledge dollars make it possible for us to continue to worship and gather in this place as well as to provide pastoral care, children's and adult formation and to engage in our reach ministry touching many lives. Many of you have turned in your pledge and I thank you for your generosity.
This week on Friday and Saturday, Amy Noe and I will be in Lombard attending Diocesan Convention. If you should need something please contact Co-Warden Cate Williams. I will also be checking messages.
See you Sunday

Christmas Basket Program
For many years, St. Mary's has participated in twinter-gift-holding.jpghe ReVive Center's Christmas Basket Program. During the Christmas season, this is a wonderful opportunity for members of our Parish to purchase Jewel gift cards or shop for individual Christmas gifts for some of the most impoverished families and seniors of our metropolitan area. This year, our Parish has been asked to adopt/sponsor 12 families comprised of 26 individuals.
You may sign up to adopt/sponsor one or more of these individuals/families on the poster hanging in the Great Hall. The instructions and the individual's wish list will be in the file box below the poster.
Please return all gift cards and gift items (new and wrapped) back to the Great Hall by Sunday, November 27, 2016 by 11:00 a.m.
*Volunteers are needed to help organize the boxes on Sunday, November 27, right after the service.  *Volunteers are needed to load the boxes onto the ReVive Center truck on Wednesday, November 30 at 10:00 a.m.
Please contact Jennifer Kolarczyk  if you'd like to help.
Advent Begins November 27
Light Bearers Needed
During the season of Advent, families or individuals are invited to light the candles on the Advent Wreath . It is a very special moment to bring the light into church at the beginning of the service , and then light the Advent candle(s).  W e encourage interested households to sign up for a particular Sunday; the sign-up sheet  is available on a Narthex table.
Advent Lessons and Carols
One of the very special traditions of our Anglican heritage, during the season of Advent, is the observance of a Service of Lessons and Carols , a service many Episcopal congregations have adopted, and one that has come to be a joy for those who have participated in it over the years at St. Mary's.
This liturgy begins with a lovely Bidding Prayer, and continues with a series of Scripture readings, each followed by a carol or hymn. The lessons trace the story of God's relationship with Humanity, from Creation until the promise is given of the birth of the Messiah. A readings sign-up sheet is available on a Narthex table.
This year the Lessons & Carols service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 27 . The 8:00 a.m. liturgy will be celebrated as usual on this day.   Please note the Eucharist will only be celebrated at the 8:00 a.m. service.

Senior Holiday Luncheon
St. Mary's Seniors - please join us for a holiday luncheon on Saturday, December 3, in the Great Hall, beginning a 11:30 a.m.  This is a festive occasion not to be missed.  Please RSVP to Amy in the parish office.  All seniors and their friends are welcome.
