News from The Episcopal Cafe
From the Rector

Dear Parishioners  & Friends of St. Mary's,

As we move into the middle of August I am giving thanks for this beautiful weather that we have been enjoying.  I do realize that the students here in Crystal Lake are preparing to return to school within the next week or two and that families are resuming their busy season.  However, I hope that you will take these last few weeks of August to enjoy the loveliness of the season and to see God's hand in all creation.

This Sunday we are celebrating the Feast of St. Mary the Virgin, the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ , for whom we are named.  I hope that you will join me as we contemplate how the life of Mary informs our life as Christians and the life of our parish.  Please mark your calendar for our next monthly Community Meal , which is happening on Saturday August 19 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.   This is a great way to meet people, connect and have great food.

The inurnment of Fred and Ruth Miles will take place this Monday August 14 , at 3:00 p.m. in the St. Mary's Churchyard.  Fred and Ruth were longtime parishioners here and gave so much of their time, talent and treasure to St. Mary's.  Fred died in 2006 and Ruth died in 2015.  I will preside over a short prayer service as we bury their ashes and remember them.

May their souls and the souls of all of the faithful departed, by the mercies of God, rest in peace.

See you Sunday,
Fran+

Looking for a cool treat to beat the heat in August?  Consider getting a frozen treat at the McDonald's in Crystal Lake (across from Five Guys).  Every day, during the month of August, a portion of their ice cream sales will enable the Food Pantry to purchase food and perishable items, and raise the awareness of hunger in our community.   Thanks for your support!

Crystal Lake Food Pantry Volunteers

If you currently volunteer on St. Mary's service days, please consider helping on other days, too.   The pantry's online SignUp Volunteer Calendar has been updated with many new opportunities to volunteer! To learn more, please visit the CL Food Pantry website .   If you are interested in assisting clients, stocking shelves, helping sort food and even helping to receive perishable food (dropped off from the grocery stores throughout the week), we've got a spot for you!  If you have friends that may want to volunteer, please be sure to share this information with them, too!

We are truly grateful for your support!

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga meets two mornings a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, at 10:45 a.m. to serve the congregation and community. All are welcome!

An opening format consists of breathing exercises and inspiration from Peter Traben's book,  Centering Prayers. Usually the time includes favorite exercises for balance, massage and stretches at the wall. The sessions conclude with final relaxation and meditation music.

This group is a blessing as the caring among members gives everyone a good balance of wisdom for the body, mind, soul and spirit. As the group concludes their time in a circle, the quiet, calm place reached helps everyone become a little more healthy, contented and peaceful.

Summer's Sight at Horizon's Edge

The Sun, a halo at horizon's edge
where burnished gold meets ridge of orange glow,
as though almighty God was standing there
bestowing blessings on His field of green.

The field of green with cattails standing tall
like arms raised high to praise God's glowing love,
embrace the wonder of this summer sight
of Sun that brings another brand new day.

The splendor of the sunrise is His song
that sings the beauty of its light and warmth;
this power of the life it brings to earth,
can only be the mastery of God.

Let's raise our arms like cattails in a field,
and praise that halo at horizon's edge,
as though Almighty God was standing there,
in thankfulness for all His gifts of Earth.
