News from The Episcopal Cafe
"From the Rector" Column to Return in a Few Weeks

Rev. Fran is currently participating in an amazing trip to the Holy Land, with Bishop Lee and many other pilgrims from the Diocese. She will return to the office on Monday, May 22.   Her plan is to put together a slide show presentation of her travels, which she will share with the parish sometime this summer.

This morning, Bishop Lee posted a video message from the Sea of Galilee, which can be seen here.  This is likely the first of many messages we will receive from the group.

If you have a pastoral emergency while Fran is away, you may contact Amy Noe during regular office hours (815-459-1009). At other times please contact Co-Warden , Cate Williams , at or Co-Warden, Marge Smith. Amy, Cate, or Marge can contact the on call priest if needed.

Bake Sale Success!

Thank youcheckerboard-cookies.jpg so much to the many parishioners who bought our goodies and made donations to the Avon 2-Day Walk.  We raised $628, which helped us reach our team goal of $3600!  In fact, we will surpass that goal once we are able to deposit the checks at our walk check-in in a couple of weeks. We are truly blessed to have found such a lovely parish.

Upcoming Labyrinth Walk

The next Labyrinth Walk will be held this Saturday, May 13, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 Noon, in the Great Hall.  This is open to all, whether you've been walking for years, or are new to this peaceful  method of prayer and meditation.  If you have never walked the labyrinth before, no worries, as instruction is always available.

Calling All Bilingual Parishioners!

Do you speak another language in addition to English?   Then we want you at the 10:00 a.m. Pentecost service on Sunday, June 4 !   As you know, we have a wonderful Pentecost tradition here at St. Mary's. The Pentecost reading of the Acts of the Apostles 1:1-21 is read in several different languages simultaneously, to illustrate the scripture passage: "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability."  (Acts 2:4)

In the past we've had speakers in Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, German, and even Russian! This year we already have a volunteer who will read in Greek! Any language is welcome!!!!   If you are interested, please contact Amy in the parish office. She will get you a copy of the reading in your preferred language, or you may use your own foreign-language Bible if you have one.

Congratulations Senior Acolytes!

During the month of May we will present the Senior Cross to our three acolytes who are graduating high school. Teagan Thune, Anthony Novy, and Grant Dlesk will be given their cross this month, in thanksgiving for their dedication and faithful service to our parish over the years. We are truly grateful for your faithful participation in our worship.

Parents: Share your Graduate's News!

With the arrival of Spring, graduation season is not too far behind. In the next few months, St. Mary's will have several youth and young adults graduating from Junior High, High School, and College. Parents, we'd love to share the good news with everyone, so please let us know all about your graduate: the school they're graduating from, and the school (or job) that will be the next step. You may include other information as well, such as scholarships or awards received. A simple write-up can be submitted to the Parish Offic e; the good news will be included in upcoming issues of The Magnificat Weekly .

Thanks to all parents for helping to share the good news about St. Mary's youth!

Paper Products Donations Needed

The Crystal Lake Food Pantry needs your help!  Your donation of paper products and money would be greatly appreciated, as the pantry is not able to purchase paper goods through the food bank.  Items such as toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, napkins, etc., may be dropped off in the basket in the Narthex. You will also find envelopes there for monetary donations. St. Mary's is one of the founding churches of the pantry and it is up to us to help those less fortunate. Thank you for your continued support!
