Weekly Reflections No. 6 from Meher Baba Books
(Los Angeles, California)
Hello Friends/Companions:

The 6th week is on! Although it is illusory, yet time just flies by. It is so much fun reading and reflecting on Baba's words. We are happy to offer these weekly mini-circulars in the form of words from Meher Baba to all of you.

Our aim is mainly to share and reflect on some passages from the treasury of divine knowledge, Meher Baba. Let us all keep Him more and more in our hearts, minds, and daily lives! This week is a Tribute to Mehera J. Irani, as her birthday is coming up. It is a pleasure to reflect on Beloved Baba's Beloved "Mahāmāyā"! That is what Upasni Maharaj called the consort of the Avatar. "She is necessary to keep Maya in existence." Mahāmāyā is also a force and/or the principal deity (shakti, power) who creates, perpetuates and governs the phantasmagoria (fantastical imaginary creation), illusion and dream of duality in the phenomenal Universe. Without her presence, creation as we know it would be destroyed. Isn't this amazing? Her presence in each advent is so essential.

Happy Birthday, dearest Mehera! -- the purest soul in the universe, as Baba stated!

We hope you enjoy these small occasions for reflecting on the beauty and power of Beloved Baba's words. Enjoy His presence within the sweetness of His words!

Victory Unto Him!

A Tribute to Mehera J. Irani
Who is Mehera Irani?

Mehera Jehangir Irani (January 7, 1907 - May 20, 1989) was Meher Baba's closest mandali (disciple). Meher Baba said she was the purest soul in the universe and that she loved him as he ought to be loved. He called her his "Radha" and said, "She is my very breath without which I cannot live."

Mehera met Meher Baba for the first time on October 15, 1922 at the age of 14 in the Sakori ashram of Upasni Maharaj during a visit with her mother, but did not come to stay with Baba permanently at Meherabad until 1924. Unique among Meher Baba's women mandali, Mehera was sequestered by Baba from contact with men. It was not until the late 1960s that Mehera J. Irani was permitted by Meher Baba to come out of her seclusion and meet some of the men mandali from a distance. On the porch at Meherazad, she simply folded her hands to them out of respect to their love for Baba and saluted them with "Jai Baba!"

Mehera was one of four women who accompanied Baba in his New Life period from 1949-1951. In 1952 Mehera suffered a severe head injury in an automobile accident with Meher Baba near Prague, Oklahoma.

Although Mehera was born in January, from 1968 her birthday has been celebrated on December 22 as it was in 1968 in accordance with the Zoroastrian calendar, that being the last year it was celebrated in Meher Baba's physical presence.

IN HAPPY OCCASION OF MEHERA'S BIRTHDAY

The 24th and 25th [1959] were celebrated en famille in happy occasion of Mehera's birthday and one of our Beloved's ancient birthdays. All the love that poured in from His Western family through Christmas greetings in the beautiful cards and cables, as well as that which was sent in silence, was received - and Baba sends His eternal love to you each.

A Happy BABA-Year to us all, and may we have His grace to love Him more. I remember Baba saying once that it is not so difficult to receive His grace, as to recognize it in the form in which it comes disguised. This little prayer we read in a book:

"My soul is like a rusty lock,
Oil it with Thy grace.
And rub it, rub it, rub it, Lord
Until I see Thy Face."

May His love teach us to accept the "rub" with the oil.

Mehera Represents the Whole of Creation

when the Maharani of Baroda, Shanta Devi, had come for My darshan? She was sitting near Me. Her mind was working, and I knew what she was thinking. ♦ "Immediately I said, 'I never remain alone. During the daytime, Mandali members are with Me. When I go to the lady Mandali , they are there. At night, there is always one night watchman with Me. So I am never alone." ♦ "Then I said, 'Mehera is the purest of the pure. She never has any lustful thought. She is so pure that I love her very much, and I call her my Beloved." ♦ Then the voice asked me, "'Do you remember this?" ♦ "Yes, Baba, I do remember," I answered. ♦ Baba said, "Why did I say this to Shanta Devi? Because she was thinking that Mehera must be coming to Me during the night. When I said this to her, she realized that I indeed know everything. ♦ "Mehera was the one representing the whole of Creation. In the beginning, when the Creation took place, I got God Realization. Then I became the first Perfect Master. I worshiped Maya (Illusion), because Maya was and is the medium for Realization of God. Therefore, when I come down on Earth, age after age, I bring someone to represent the whole of Creation. Creation has all the opposite attributes of God. Mehera was "the one who was representing all the opposite attribute."

That Much I Can Tell You
by Mehera J. Irani

One morning, perhaps a month after Baba started His silence, He came into our compound and stood on the east verandah of the Post Office. Baba had not come there for some time. I did not see Baba as I was inside the room cleaning His breakfast utensils, but He must have given a clap for one of the girls working in the temporary kitchen. When they came running up to Him He gestured, "Send Mehera!" They came rushing to the room and told me, "Quickly, Mehera, Baba wants you!" ♦ "Oh," I thought, as I went to the verandah, "Baba wants to tell me something. I hope I have not make a mistake." ♦ Baba had freshly bathed, and He was standing on the verandah beside the wooden packing case that He used as a seat. The verandah was raised about
eighteen inches above the ground on which I stood looking up at Him. I could not believe my eyes. Baba was so beautiful. He was very young and very, very slim. Baba's skin was very fair, and this morning there was a pink flush on His face. His brown hair was loose, shining in the sun, with the tips golden and looking like a halo around Him. Baba was wearing a new sadra, fresh and white, which was open at the neck, and the little vee of His chest showing was pink from His being in the sun. ♦ Baba asked me, "What were you doing?" ♦ "I was doing my work, Baba," I replied. ♦ "Are you happy?" ♦ "Yes, very happy," I told him. He was making small talk with me. Then Baba sat on the packing case, took the slate and on that He wrote down what He wanted to tell me. ♦ "From the first time I saw you I recognised you as My Radha," He said. And He told me some other things, too, but that much I can tell you.
