Former OSHA Head Criticizes Regulatory Pullback
Lawmakers’ invocation of the Congressional Review Act to overturn a U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule requiring them to keep injury and illness records for five years is a “disaster,” according to the former head of OSHA.

OSHA Budget Seeks More Enforcement Funding, Cuts Training Grants
OSHA has requested $212.7 million in funding for enforcement in fiscal year (FY) 2019, representing an increase of $6.1 million, or just under 3 percent, over the FY 2018 levels. However, the total requested budget for FY 2019 is identical to the 2018 level, meaning that the agency shifted requested money away from other areas to fund the increase in enforcement dollars.

Avert Danger by Keeping up with Workplace Safety Trends
Rewind to about 125 years ago and a vastly different picture of labour safety emerges. What was then largely an agricultural economy, was moving swiftly into the industrial age, especially in South Africa (SA), which was experiencing the gold mining boom.

An emergent safety leader is one who has emerged as an effective leader because of how he/she interacts with others. The emergent leader may have a formal leadership title or may not. People follow the emergent leader voluntarily, and passionately give their best every day. Becoming an emergent leader requires mastery of four skills, or domains. These four domains, along with fourteen elements of leadership-based safety, form the agenda for this dynamic, research-based experience. Participants begin to develop the 4 skills and leave with a personal safety leadership development plan they can put into practice immediately following the session. Deadline is March 2nd at 5PM!

The Safety Alliance & the Unified Commission of Safety are Offering the Following Courses
Crystalline Silica Safety
This course presents an overview of the dangers of silica. The course covers safe work procedures where workers are exposed to silica. The focus of this course is to familiarize you with practices that decrease the risk of exposure, and to offer best practices for mitigating the dangers of exposure to silica in workplace.
Common workplace operations involving cutting, sawing, drilling, and crushing of concrete, brick, block, rock, and stone products; and operations using sand products (such as sand blasting), can result in the inhalation of small (respirable) crystalline silica particles in the air.
