What Will You Do?

I recently sat down with two industry veterans and I asked them a simple question:

What advice would you give an originator that was just entering the business, or a professional in the industry with 5 to 10 years experience? They answered with the following:
  • Look for future trends, not past ones
  • Find a few strong mentors and take their advice
  • Learn something new every day
  • Focus on the quality deals
  • Never stop learning from vendors & end-users
  • Engage in the industry - be active in an association
  • Have fun - don't take yourself too seriously
  • Realize that there is plenty of business for everyone - respect your competition
  • It's a small industry - don't talk badly about anyone - they may be your boss next year
  • Keep growing professionally - there is always a higher level - don't limit yourself
  • Give 110% and the industry will treat you well - there are unlimited opportunities.
