We are thrilled to announce that after a six year hiatus, the Village has started construction on the first traffic calming project on SW 174th Street and 84th Avenue; one of others to follow. Work on the
installation of the four permanent speed humps already began yesterday. The speed humps should significantly curtail speeding on this road. The project is part of the overall Comprehensive Traffic Plan that was publicly unveiled at the
Traffic Town Hall this past Tuesday, September 27, 2016.
Palmetto Bay
presented the array of projects that make up the village-wide Comprehensive Traffic Plan. At this time, the initiatives are in the proposal stage and will not be implemented until they are vetted through the
public process and approved by the Council. If you missed the town hall, no reason to worry. More information will be forthcoming and residents will have other opportunities to provide feedback on the overall plan. As earlier mentioned, this is quite the “comprehensive” plan that incorporates several components, including traffic calming projects, traffic mobility initiatives, transit expansion, alternative mobility options, education, and enforcement. As such, the plan will not be completed overnight, but we will make certain that once approved, the projects move forward expeditiously.
Please continue to keep an eye out for our traffic calming information and updates! If you have any further questions, please contact Village Hall at 305-259-1234.
