Friday, October 6, Jamba Juice Friday:
Jamba Juice Friday is the first Friday of every month! It is sold on the ramp from 7:30-8:30am. All proceeds go toward helping fund Middle School special trips.
 
Sunday, October 8, City Tree Sunday!
Preschool (Loving Lights, Son Beams, King's Kids & Heavenly Angels), Elementary, and Middle School students will sing, play in the band, and participate in City Tree Sunday on October 8! We would love to have 100% participation since it is such a great way to show the church all that is happening at our school! Preschool, all K-5, and middle school students will be participating in the service (singing and/or playing in the band). 
Event details:
7:45 - Middle school students gather in room 312
7:45 - K-5 students & ALL parents gather in the Dining Room
8:00 - Preschool students should be dropped off at their individual classrooms. Teachers will meet you in classrooms. Parents should come to the Dining Room after dropping off their preschoolers in their classrooms.
8:30 Worship Service - Preschool & K-5 students will sing, Middle School Band students will play.
9:45-10:45 - Fellowship hour with refreshments, Middle School band plays, & the City Tree Singers will sing!
Attire : Children that are singing should wear their "Sunday Best", uniforms are not expected. Also wear a joy filled smile
MIDDLE SCHOOL INFORMATION ONLY:
10:40 - Middle School Band students tune up for 11:00am service
11:00 - Middle School Band students play in 11:00am service
about 11:20 - Band students meet parents in room 312
Middle School Student's attire: Students should dress up in their "Sunday Best". Boys should wear collared shirts (polo shirts okay), please no jeans. Girls should wear dresses, skirts, or nice pants.
Middle School Students must bring: Instrument, reeds, cables, and binder with music assigned
All School Important Information:
-RSVP on your child's clipboard sign-up sheets. We are asking that all families respond with a "yes" or "no" on these sheets.
-Infants & Little Blessings will not be performing in the service. We encourage parents to worship with us on this special Sunday. Drop off your Little Blessing or Precious Miracle in room 105 between 8:15-8:30am for childcare and join us for the 8:30am worship service in the Sanctuary and fellowship time after!
 
Sunday, October 8, City Tree Sunday Volunteers Needed After 1st Service:
We are in need of 6 parent volunteers to help move portable stairs and set up the Sanctuary stage extension after the 1st service in preparation for the 2nd service. Volunteers MUST be able to lift heavy materials. Contact the school office if you are able to help. This is a quick task so please be ready to come up the front of the Sanctuary once the service is over.
 
Pet & Animal Reminder for Parents:
Animals are not allowed in the school building , playgrounds , or near the entrance of the school without prior approval of teaching/administrative staff for educational purposes. This includes animals that are restrained or contained and is for the health and safety of our students and staff. We realize that this is an inconvenience for some, but because of our child care licensing laws that are established to protect children we ask for your full compliance.
 
Picture Day Volunteers, Thanks:
We want to thank the parent volunteer that helped us this week during our picture days. Thank you to parent volunteers Jessica Cokro, Felicia Smith, Joy Homze, & Ellen Soediono for helping make both picture days go smoothly! We appreciate everyone's hard work.

PTO Volunteers Needed!
We are filling volunteer positions for this school year's PTO. Look for the brightly colored signs by the school entrance and sign up to volunteer! Your participation makes our school better for your child and for all students. Two key position that still need to be filled are:
Fall Festival, Friday, October 27:
-Fall Festival Co-Chairs: We have one volunteer, one more person would be helpful!
Christmas time volunteer positions:
-Classroom Gift Tree Coordinator: Hanging paper Christmas trees outside of classrooms, cutting out paper ornaments, and sending instructions to teachers 
-Christmas Program Dinner Coordinator, Thursday, Dec 14
-Assist with setting up K-8 Art Show, December 13 or 14 
2018 Gala, March 2018
-Gala Co-Chairs: We have one volunteer, one more person would be helpful!
-Gala Donation Solicitation Coordinators: 1-3 volunteers needed

Friday, October 6, Preschool Grandparents Day:
Save the date! Preschool Grandparents Day will be on Friday, October 6 at 3:00pm. This is a special time for grandparents (or a loved one!) to visit with their preschool students in the classroom. They will make a project together and enjoy a snack. We hope to see many families there! Look for more information as it gets closer, but let your grandparents know about this now!
 
Volunteers needed for Grandparents Day!
We are in need of 2-3 volunteer to help prep and serve during Grandparents Day on Friday, October 6. volunteers are needed from 2:00-4:00pm. Contact Mrs. Carroll if you are available to help!

Departure: 8:30am
Return time: about 11:30am
Cost: $10.00, please pay teacher if you have not already

Mrs. Irwig and Grades 2-5 & 8  will be walking to the San Diego Symphony on Thursday, October 19. Trip details:
Departure: 10:30am
Return time: about 12:45pm
Cost: $6 per student, please pay teacher if you have not already 
Attire for Grades 2 & 3: School uniform and comfortable walking shoes
Attire for Grades 4, 5 & 8: Formal dress or school uniforms, and comfortable walking shoes
Remember to sign the blue permission slip on your child's classroom clipboard.

Band fees for the 2017-2018 school year for students in grades 4-8 are due Friday, September 30.
-4th gr: $25
-5th gr & New 6th-8th Gr Students: $155 - Please note: Forms for band uniform orders will be placed in parent files soon
-Returning 6th-8th Gr Students:$120 
-Jazz Band fees will be due mid-November. More information will be provided by Mrs. Irwig.
Turn in payment to the mailbox outside in the hallway labeled "Band". Contact  Mrs. Irwig if you have any questions.

Friday, October 6, "Mulan" Movie Night:
All middle school students are invited to attend a movie party at Mrs. Decker's house from 6:30-9:00pm. Students will watch the Disney movie "Mulan" in preparation for their own show and make s'mores over a backyard bonfire. Check out the attached flyer for more information.
 
Middle School Girls' Bible Study Began:
Ms. Mandie is leading a weekly Middle School Girls Bible Study during lunch. All Middle School girls are welcome and encouraged to attend as we read through a study on the book of Esther and discussing how today's choices can impact our future. For more information, contact Ms. Mandie Tyink.
 
October 17-20, 6th Grade Camp:
Camp is nearly here! Be sure you sign permission for 6th grade camp on the blue field trip form that is  out on clipboards. We need 3-4 parents to drive to/from Jamul (approx. 40 minutes from City Tree). If you can assist with driving, please add your name, number of passengers, and whether you can drive to/from camp on the field trip form.   Click here for a letter from Mrs. Henzel that outlines details of the trip and   click here for a copy of the packing list.
 
October 18-20, 7th Grade Catalina Camp - NOTE: Camp Return Time Change:
Thanks to all parents who signed up to assist with transportation to/from our Catalina Ferry. As your students prepare for this field trip, please remember to sign permission on the clipboards. Students are required to wear their Wisdom t-shirts on the first day and bring a sack lunch along with their luggage. We will meet in the parking out at 5:00am for departure on October 18. We have had a small change in our return ferry schedule, and students are expected back on the mainland at about 12:00pm and back at school 2:30-3:00pm. *Please plan to pick up your child upon his/her return from Catalina. There will not be school for 7th grade after their return. Feel free to call the school office after 12:30pm for updates on return time. Please   contact Mrs. Henzel with questions.

Friday, October 27, 8th Grade Leadership Conference:
Our 8th grade class will be traveling to the ACSI leadership conference in Pasadena for a time of collaborative leaning with other Christian middle schools. There is no cost for this trip, but please be sure you have signed permission for the upcoming 8th grade trip to Pasadena for the ACSI leadership conference. The blue field trip form is out on clipboards soon. Lunch is provided, and be sure to wear your "ProVerbs of Wisdom" t-shirts! Meet in front of City Tree at 5:00am (please be on time). We expect to be back by 5:00-6:00pm. Feel free to call the school between 3:00-4:00 for an update on our return time. That evening is also the Fall Festival. If you wish to give permission for your child to be released upon return to the school to attend fall festival, please email Mrs. Henzel in advance. Otherwise, they will join the after school program until 6:00pm at which time, parents are expected to arrive. Contact Mrs. Henzel with any questions, and to give permission for your child to attend Fall Festival.

8th Grade Transition to High School:
Although it is the beginning of the year, it's not too early to begin thinking and planning for high school! This process can take time as you research, visit, and select the right school for your child. City Tree is here to help with that process! Please take time to check out the attached resources sheet help you get started with the high school transition and please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Henzel for any assistance.
