Friday, March 2, Morning Bake Sale:
A few of our students are hosting a morning bake sale from 7:30-8:30am on the ramp by the school entrance. Money raised will go toward a special appreciation gift for our facilities staff! Baked goods range from $1.00-$4.00 and used books will be on sale for $.50.

Friday, March 2, NEW Women's Friday Morning Bible Study Begins:
The Women's Friday Morning Bible Study is beginning a new, 7-week study using "The Armor of God" by Priscilla Shirer. Join us in the West Room from 8:30-9:45am. Childcare and refreshments provided.

Friday, March 2, Gala Basket Wrapping Party:
Help us wrap our classroom baskets and other Gala donations! The PTO is hosting a Gala Basket Wrapping Party tomorrow on Friday, March 2 in the West Room from 3:00-5:30pm. Sign up on the board outside of the school entrance!
Important! Gift Basket Donations: 
We need additional gift baskets for our Gala! Please consider putting together something special in a basket for our Gala. Each classroom is doing a class basket but we need even more gift baskets to auction off! Bring them to the school office, we will gladly take them. Contact Lori Avery with any questions.

March 5-16, Read Across America Reading Challenge Begins: 
Everyone is invited to participate in the Read Across America Reading Challenge! On Friday, March 2 we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday with Read Across America Day! Our reading challenge kicks off Monday, March 5 and ends on Friday, March 16. Logs, activity sheets, and more info will be placed in parent files soon so you can get started on your reading challenge!

Friday, March 9, NEW Wednesday Night Parenting Class Begins: 
Calling all parents! FPC is hosting a new parenting class on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30pm in the Scout Room. There will be a potluck dinner and child care provided. Contact Peggy Gross with any questions you have.

April 27 & 28, Living Proof LIVE with Beth Moore at the Rock Church:
Beth Moore will be coming to San Diego on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28 at the Rock Church to dive deeper into understanding God in your life. There are a limited number of tickets available for the friends and family of City Tree Christian School! Details:

-Babysitting is available at the City Tree Campus: $35.00 first child, $65.00 per family, & a supplemental $20 fee for children under 2 years old.

Friday, March 2, Classroom Donation Contest EXTENDED!
Any donations you bring can be tallied in the Classroom Donation Contest! Tally boards are outside of the school office to track donations brought in. Make sure to claim credit for your donations in the school office by Friday, March 2 to be eligible for the contest! Top selling class wins an ice cream party so get those donations in!!
Donations Needed!!
We are DESPERATELY in need donations for our silent and live auctions! The auction is such a fun portion of the night and proceeds go directly to benefit City Tree's Technology and Enrichment programs! Donation request forms are in front of the school office. 

Thursday, March 8, Gala Raffle Tickets DUE for Top Seller Contest:
-We ask ALL students & parents participate! If each student sells $30 in tickets, we will raise over $5,000!
Proceeds go toward City Tree's technology and enrichment programs.
-Cost of raffle tickets: $1 for 1 ticket, $5 for 7 tickets, & $10 for 15 tickets 
-Top Seller Contest: Top 2 sellers will receive prizes & the classroom that sells the most tickets wins a pizza party and free dress day! Raffle tickets must be turned in by Thursday, March 8 in order to be eligible for both contests!
-Raffle tickets and logs were distributed to parent files. If you did not receive an envelope with tickets and a log, pick one up in the school office!
-Drawing will be held at the Gala on Saturday, March 10. You do not need to be present to win!

URGENT! Volunteers for 2018 Gala Needed:
Our Gala committee is in need of volunteers to coordinate and help with important jobs for this year's event. These are position that STILL NEED to be filled:
Photo Booth: We need a parent volunteer who can coordinate our audio and visual needs for the Gala. Equipment is available at the school and you will just need to coordinate with Mrs. Floeter to familiarize with operation of equipment. Volunteer will also help with set-up and breakdown of equipment and provide fun, photo booth props!
Set-Up/Transport Team:  in need of about 3 volunteers on the day of the Gala (Need one more parent volunteer for this. 2 volunteers have already come forward)
Tear-down Team:  in need of about 3 parent volunteers (volunteers will need to assist decorating committee collect center pieces, and assisting with any other items that need to be returned to the school.)

Reminder About Labeling Your Child's Items: 
Remember to label all lunch boxes, backpacks, jackets, sweaters, etc. brought to school! Every year, there are practically new jackets, sweaters, lunchboxes, and backpacks that are never claimed that could have been returned to their owner had they been labeled! Help your child remember daily to take home whatever he/she might have brought to school.

Student Council is hosting another Not-so-free Dress Day for K-8 students! Cost is $2 to wear free dress on Tuesday, March 6. Students must pay on the ramp as they enter school.

Thursday, March 8, Kindergarten-3rd Gr Classics 4 Kids Field Trip: 
When: Thursday, March 8, students will be walking to and from Balboa Theater 
Departure time: 8:30am 
Return time: about 11:00am 
Cost: $8, money is due Thursday, March 1. Please pay teacher if you haven't already. 
Make sure to sign the blue permission form on your child's clipboard.

Friday, March 9, Gr. 5-8 Jazz Band Special Gala Performance Rehearsal:
There will be a strongly encouraged practice Friday, March 9 from 3:15-4:30pm for our Gr. 5-8 Jazz Band
as a final practice for our Gala performance. It is not a mandatory rehearsal, but would be beneficial for the Jazz Band.

The deadline to complete your K-8 Family Participation Hours is coming up! Reminders about how many hours your family has left to complete will be placed in parent files soon but you can always refer to the log in the office. Remember: The Gala is a GREAT opportunity to gain volunteer hours!! You can get hours by helping the PTO with any needs they have related to the event, OR gain 5 hours per person in your party for just ATTENDING the Gala! Even though this date is a long way off it is helpful to mark it on your calendars now. Please avoid scheduling appointments during testing weeks! Students do better and feel more relaxed during testing, when they avoid make-up tests and are able to complete testing with their regular teachers.

Middle School Student Sign-in/out Reminders:
Middle School students may be dropped off and sign themselves in each day. ALL students must be signed in daily for safety reason. A parent must always sign students out! Students who are not signed up for after school care should meet their parents by the middle school sign-in area after school. Students who do not form good sign-in habits will be required to have a parent sign them in.

Thursday, March 8, Human Development Permission Slips Due:
Click here for more information about our upcoming Human Development unit. Each student will need expressed permission (by email or on the attached slip) in order to participate. Parents may express permission by emailing Mrs. Henzel at [email protected], replying to an email that went out via RenWeb on 2/22, or printing and returning the attached slip. Human Development classes will take place March 13-April 13.

Thursday, March 15, Science Fair Field Trip:
All 6th-8th grade students will be visiting the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair in Balboa Park with Ms. Lee to check out this year's entries and get ideas for future projects. No field trip sign-up is needed, but please be aware that students will be off campus from 11:40-2:15 this day. If you would like to help chaperone this field trip, contact Mrs. Henzel.

Friday, March 23-Monday, March 26, First Pres AMOR House-Building Trip:
AMOR is FPC's student ministry opportunity to serve in Tijuana, BC Mexico where we will help build houses for those who are in need.

Grades 4-8 took a field trip to the San Diego Symphony! Students listened to a selection of music that explored different types of rhythm, where they come from, and how is has influenced music through history.

6th grades have been practicing a lot of drawing in art class. Students began working on figure drawing by using mannequins as their subject matter. Student focused on shape and shadow in their drawing exercises.
