Jamba Juice Friday is the first Friday of every month! It is sold on the ramp from 7:30-8:30am. All proceeds go toward helping fund Middle School special trips.

Wednesday, March 8, Parent Reading Volunteers Needed:
There's nothing quite like reading to our kids to show a love of reading! We need parent volunteers to read a book to a group or a class in Preschool-3rd grade classes on Wednesday, March 8. We ask volunteers to gather in the Geneva Room from 8:35-8:50am for refreshments and at 9:00am begin reading! Perhaps you have a favorite book that you would like to read, or we can help you to pick one. If you are interested in helping please contact Peter Tucker.

Friday, March 24, T-shirt Order for Military Child Month:
In April, City Tree will be celebrating the month of Military Child! Order a special purple t-shirt commemorating the month of the Military Child. Order details:
- Click here to download your order form or pick one up outside the school office. 
-Cost is $15 per t-shirt
- Order forms and payment are due Friday, March 24. Place orders in the t-shirt mailbox in the hallway. 
-T-shirts will be delivered to classrooms on Monday, April 3 to be worn for a special assembly on Friday, April 7!
-From April 7-June 13 purple shirts can be worn at any time as part of the CTCS uniform!
-All military children will receive a FREE t-shirt, but please complete the form for sizing purposes.

April 28-30, FPC Women's Retreat:
City Tree moms are invited to attend the annual Women's Retreat at Mission San Luis Rey! Registration is now open for Friday, April 28-Sunday, April 30! Make sure to register soon, more than half of the spots are already filled! This year's topic is "Hope is in the House", with Arlene Pellicane as the speaker. Cost is $190, a deposit is required to register. Half scholarships are available. Click here to sign up and make a payment.

We Need a New Sandbox!
We need a new sandbox for our roof playground. We are still trying to figure out the best way to proceed: repair our old one, purchase a new one, or build our own. If you are handy and skilled in carpentry and would like a great project that would benefit preschool and elementary children please contact Sue Kennedy via email.

Registration Deadlines:
February 19-April 28: Open Enrollment for all families from outside CTCS to submit enrollment application, required paperwork and discounted registration fee ($50 off regular amount) for class space available.
May 1: Registration fee increases to regular amount of $375. Enrollment is ongoing through the summer and into the school year on a space available basis.

Monday, March 6, Deadline EXTENDED! LAST DAY to Submit Gala Raffle Sales for Contest:
-Last day to turn in raffle tickets, money, and log to office is Monday, March 6 in order to participate in the raffle sale contest,  click here for the flyer.
-Top 2 sellers will receive prizes!
-Additional ticket packets are available in the school office.
-Remember, you can keep selling raffle tickets beyond this deadline. Those sales will not be eligible for the student top seller contest and must be submitted by Friday, March 10 at 4:00pm to the school office. 
-Raffle drawing will be held at the Gala, Saturday, March 11, you do not need to be present to win!
-Please return packets to the office if you are not participating, but we want you to participate!!

- Ticket Price: $75.00, each ticket. Last day to purchase tickets is Monday, March 6! Click here to download the ticket form. 
-Babysitting is available at the City Tree Campus: $25.00 first child, $40.00 per family. Must be reserved and paid for by Monday, March 6! 
-Once form is complete, drop it in the Ticket Box in front the office. Your Gala reservation is NOT A PHYSICAL TICKET, it is a GUEST LIST!
-Don't forget you earn K-8 Family Participation Hours for ATTENDING the Gala!

Invite Family & Friends!
Invite your child's biggest fans like Grandma and Grandpa, or other relatives and friends! Forward them an invitation to the Gala. They'll be touched you thought of them and may even come out to support their favorite grandchild! Click here for electronic invitation.

Donation Solicitations:
Help by soliciting donations for our silent and live auctions! Click here for an official letter and Donation Request Form to provide to local businesses about giving to this year's Gala. The auction is such a fun portion of the night. Don't forget: look for the classroom donation contest chart in front of the school! Help your child's class win a special prize for donating the most auction items! Right now the top classes are the Lord's Lambs, Loving Lights, 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 4th/5th grade!

Help Needed! Volunteer Opportunities: 
We need your help with several jobs to make the day of the Gala run well. Sign-up board is outside of the school office. Here's how you can help:

Friday, March 3, Basket Wrapping Party: Volunteer your time wrapping Gala baskets that will go up for auction at the event. The basket wrapping party is from 3:15-5:30pm in the West Room. 
Saturday, March 11, Help needed at the event: 
- Transport of Gala items and materials: Help transport items and materials from City Tree to the Liberty Station Conference Center. Meet at City Tree at 10:00am. 
-Event set-up: Meet at the Liberty Station Conference Center at 10:30am to begin setting up the event space. 
-Check-in & Registration: Help get guests checked in at the event. We need volunteers from 5:00-7:00pm. 
-Raffle Ticket Sales at Gala: Sell raffle tickets at the event, several shifts are available! 
-Auction Closers & Runners: Help close silent auction items and finalizing bids from 6:45-8:00pm 
-Gala Check-Out Assistant: We need help checking out auction items and raffle prizes to guests from 7:30-10:00pm. 
-Event Clean-Up & Tear-Down: We need cleaning up after the event starting at 10:00pm.

Mrs. Bogan's Loving Lights class, Ms. Snipes' King's Kids class, and Mrs. Ruiz's Heavenly Angels class will all be seeing a special St. Patrick's Day performance that features our own City Tree Singers along with other performers! Field trip details:
When: Friday, March 17
Where: Balboa Theater at Horton Plaza
Departure time: 8:45am
Return time: about 11:00am
Cost: $8.00 for students and chaperones, please pay teacher if you haven't already

NO PEANUTS in Little Blessings!
Little Blessings will be a PEANUT FREE classroom beginning Monday, March 6. Please begin to plan accordingly as you pack lunches for your child. Please make sure you are not packing peanut butter sandwiches or any snacks that have peanuts in the label. Read labels carefully! We will have a student joining us who has a severe allergy to peanuts. Thank you for your cooperation. The good news is there are a lot of alternative to peanuts and peanut butter. This child is not allergic to tree nuts or seeds; just peanuts. Please consider using other alternatives such as soy based spreads, almond butter, or seed butter in place of peanut butter. Here are some other ideas to help you pack lunches and snacks. To celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday, we are launching a reading challenge for the whole school - we want to encourage children to read outside their classroom!
-Students record the number of minutes/books they read or are read to from Thurs, March 2-Fri, March 17 on their reading log. Click here to download the log. Students submit the completed logs to bin outside of office.
-Be on the lookout for reading logs, they will be placed in parent files next week!
-Count any reading that occurs outside of the classroom even if it's assigned by a teacher!
-Any child who participates will get a Dr. Seuss bookmark
-Students who meet the challenge minutes for their age will receive a special prize!
-Reading targets will be  announced next week!

March 6-10, Grades 4 & 5 Field Trip to Museum of Art: 
-Grades 4 & 5 attend Art in the Park daily, Monday - Friday 
-Students leave school promptly at 8:25am, arrive on time! 
- Cost to parents is $30 per student, due by March 3. Checks should be made out to City Tree. Please pay teacher.
-Thank you to the PTO & Student Council for supporting the arts at City Tree and paying the additional $30 per student fee! 
-Our focus will be on both art and social studies standards as students learn about the Renaissance.

Thursday, March 9, Grades 4 & 5 Field Trip to see Peter Pan:
Mrs. Carroll and the 4th & 5th grade class will be at the museum of art the week of March 6. On Thursday March 9 after their time at the museum, students will be going to the Rock Academy to see a performance of Peter Pan at noon. Drivers will pick up students from the Museum of Art at about 11:00am and drive them to the Rock Academy, where we will have a quick picnic, sack lunch before the show! Please contact Mrs. Carroll if you have questions. Don't forget to sign the blue permission slip form on your child's clipboard! 

Thursday, March 16, Grades K-5 Classics 4 Kids Field Trip:
Students in grades K-5 will be walking to a Classics 4 Kids field trip to see a special musical performance at the Balboa Theater in Horton Plaza - our own City Tree Singers will be performing! Field trip details:
When: Thursday, March 16
Departure time: 8:30am
Return time: about 11:00am
Cost: $8.00 per person, deadline to pay is Wednesday, March 8. Please pay teacher if you have not already.
Chaperone note: We are asking for ONE chaperone per class. If the space to sign up on the clipboard is filled and you would like to attend the field trip, please come by the school office to be placed on a waiting list.
Attire: School uniform, but wear your GREEN polo shirts in honor of this St. Patrick's Day Celebration!

Thursday & Friday March 16 & 17 City Tree Singers Perform at Classics 4 Kids: 
We are so proud of our students who were selected for this special performance at the Balboa Theatre, Classics 4 Kids, St. Patrick's Day Celebration! What an honor it is for the City Tree Singers to represent City Tree in FOUR different shows that will be presented in our community. They will be performing with The Classics Philharmonic Orchestra, Celtic Fiddler Wanda Law, and Irish dancers from Malone Academy for a special Irish celebration! Thank you to Mrs. Shirean Williams, our wonderful music teacher, for coordinating this event and preparing our students for these special performances!

Important Reminders for the City Tree Singers Performers:
Here are some important reminders for City Tree Singers performing in the March 16 & 17 Classics 4 Kids performances:
-Students will be performing at 9:30am & 11:30am on both days
-Singers and chaperones must meet at City Tree in the Geneva Room at 7:45am on Thursday, March 16 & at 8:00am on Friday, March 17. Students will be walking to and from the venue.
-Attire: Please make sure that all articles of clothing are in VERY good condition.
Girls: Plaid uniform skirt or skort, green City Tree short sleeve polo shirt, White knee socks, and black or navy shoes
Boys: Navy blue trousers (no shorts) with belt, green City Tree short sleeve polo shirt, and black, brown or navy shoes

Middle School Student Sign-in/out Reminders:
Middle School students may be dropped off and sign themselves in each day. ALL students must be signed in daily for safety reason. A parent must always sign students out! Students who are not signed up for after school care should meet their parents by the middle school sign in area after school. Students who do not form good sign-in habits will be required to have a parent sign them in.

Friday, March 3, Middle School Madness:
When & Where: Friday, March 3 from 6:00-8:00pm in the Youth Room (room 307)
What is it: An ultimate, crazy game night! Middle School Madness is a time to have fun with friends, get to know one another better, and maybe meet someone new - invite your friends! 
Cost: $5 for Pizza & drinks.

Friday, March 10, Human Development Permission Slips Due:
Click here for more information about our upcoming Human Development unit. Each student will need a signed permission slip in order to participate. Slips can be turned into the office or the homeroom teacher by Friday, March 17, or parents may sign and email the permission slip to Mrs. Becky Henzel by Friday, March 17. Human Development classes will take place March 21-April 3.

Friday, March 16, Science Fair Field Trip:
All 6th-8th grade students will be visiting the Greater San Diego Science & Engineering Fair in Balboa Park with Mrs. Lucas to check out this year's entries and get ideas for future projects. No field trip sign-up is needed, but please be aware that students will be off campus from 11:40-2:15 this day. If you can help chaperone this field trip, contact Mrs. Henzel.

Saturday, March 25-Tuesday, March 28, First Pres AMOR House-Building Trip:
AMOR is FPC's student ministry opportunity to serve in Tijuana, BC Mexico where we will help build houses for those who are in need.
-Dates: Saturday, March 25-Tuesday, March 28
-Cost: $275, scholarships are available
-Due to these dates conflicting with school, it is possible to attend only for the weekend. Please contact Peggy Gross for more details.
NOTE: City Tree Students wishing to attend for all 4 dates must meet the following criteria in order to miss school:
1) Complete all tests and turn in all work due March 27 and 28 ahead of time to teachers.
2) Maintain at least a 'C' grade in every class up until the departure date of March 25.
3) Be in good standing behaviorally (no disciplinary issues in the weeks leading up to the trip).
4) Inform the school office and teachers ahead of time so absences can be recorded appropriately.

The 4th & 5th grade class taught a chapel lesson on being faithful and obedient. Students used a multimedia presentation and skit of Elijah on Mount Carmel. The students created the script and all of the props for the lesson.  
In Language Arts class, 8th graders blended oral communication skills with creative writing. Students wrote a staged reading script from scratch and performed it for a very entertained audience!
