Clearing All School Accounts: 
As we draw closer to the end of the school year, it is critical that all of your accounts are at a zero balance! Notices regarding outstanding balances & borrowed items were placed in parent files:
-Tuition Accounts 
-Outstanding Extra Care/Late Pick-up fees are paid
-Outstanding textbooks or other school materials (items must be returned in good condition, items in poor condition or that require replacement will have costs associated that can be paid in the school office)
-Hot lunch meals on demand accounts
-Overdue library books returned or lost library book fine paid
-Borrowed uniform items returned to office: belts, clothing, PE uniforms, basketball uniforms, etc.
-Payment of reeds used for band instruments 
Remember: Students who have accounts that are past due and/or materials, borrowed clothes, etc. still outstanding, will not be able to participate in end of the year events. Click here to read more and for a list of upcoming, end of the year events.

Monday, June 12, Last Day for Lost & Found Items on Ramp:
Lost and found items have been placed on the ramp by the school entrance. Please take some time to look through these items. Items not collected by the end of Monday morning will be donated.

Friday, June 9, Last Day for Meals on Demand Program:
The LAST DAY to request Meals on Demand emergency lunches is Friday, June 9. There is NO HOT LUNCH during the summer months. Meals on Demand DO NOT ROLL OVER to the next school year AND are NON-REFUNDABLE. Contact the office to find out how many lunches you have left or for any other emergency lunch questions.

Friday, June 9, Yearbooks Distribution:
Students who have pre-ordered yearbooks will receive them in classes on Friday afternoon if their accounts are cleared. If you did not order a yearbook ahead of time, they will be for sale in front of the school and in the school office. Cost is $30 while supplies last. This year's yearbook is incredible thanks to parent volunteer Stephen Hubbard! It includes lots of photos from Preschool, Elementary, & Middle School! Don't miss out! 

Saturday, June 10, Preschool Dads Gathering:
City Tree Preschool dads are invited to gather this Saturday, June 10! Meetings are every 2nd Saturday of the month from 7:00-8:30am at the Marina Park Condominium Rec. Room (750 State St., San Diego, CA 92101). Share experiences with other dads and support each other to tackle the challenges of fatherhood! Contact Keith Andrews if you have any questions.

Monday, June 12, Last Day for Top Notch Hot Lunch Program:
The LAST DAY to receive hot lunch through Top Notch School Lunches is Monday, June 12. Orders must be placed online by Sunday, June 11. There is NO HOT LUNCH during the summer months. Top Notch School Lunches will resume for sale in late August at the beginning of the next school year. Contact Claye Cantwell at Top Notch with any questions you may have regarding your account.

Monday, June 12, Summer Camp Week 1 Payment Due: 
Remember that Summer Camp fees for students entering grades K-8 in the fall are due a week in advance! Week 1 fees are due Monday, June 12 and Week 2 payments are due Monday, June 19.

Summer Camp Registration:

Birthday Book Club:
Donate a book the school library in honor of your child's birthday! Children can join the Birthday Book Club by bringing a book of their choice (wrapped as a gift if possible) to their classroom teacher. The book is unwrapped and shared with the class. The book then receives a special bookplate that honors your child. We place the book in circulation in the school library and it is fun for everyone to read and see who had a special birthday! Birthday books can be dropped off in the school office or given to your child's teacher.

We are filling our board for next school year. Your participation makes our school better for your child and for all students. Here is a list of important jobs we need filled:

Friday, June 9, Preschool Father's Day Ice Cream Social:
-When: 3:00-4:00pm in the Dining Room
-What:
Preschool wants to celebrate dads with a Father's Day Ice Cream Social.
-What to do: Pick up your child from their classroom, sign out, and head over the dining room for special ice cream treat. If dad isn't available, bring grandpa, uncle, a friend or mom. We want every child to have someone to share this special event with them.

Monday, June 12, K-5 Memory Verse Party at Liberty Station:
K-5 students who have memorized this year's memory verses, will participate in the K-5 Memory Verse Party! Students still have time to complete this task, students who started midyear are responsible for only those verses.
-When: Monday, June 12
-Departing at 10:15am, returning about 2:30pm
-Where: Liberty Station, NTC Park
-Fun filled day with: Jumpies, play, water activities, and a Cold Stone treat (optional) and more!
-Attire: City Tree t-shirt, shorts or pants, and tennis shoes
-Students must bring: Booster seat (if needed) for car pool, sack lunch (students with hot lunch may bring that), sun screen, water bottle
-Allowed to bring: Hat, towel to sit on, skateboard, scooter, or skates AND a helmet, water toys and a gallon of water (please label), & $5.75 for Cold Stone ice cream
-Volunteers drivers needed! Please sign up on blue field trip form.
-Sign-up on blue field trip forms when they are posted. Student names will be added to blue field trip forms once students have memorized all the verses. Please do not add names to the list.

- Attire for Students: school uniforms OR nice dressy attire. Please be especially mindful that all dress up attire must comply with school policies ( click here to see free dress guidelines). Pay attention to skirt length, no spaghetti straps, halter tops, etc.) Make sure skirt length and shoes are appropriate and allow for easy movement up and down steep stairs.
-Students are dismissed from school at 12:00pm
-After School Care is available until 6:00pm for those already signed up. If your child is staying for after school care, make sure to send a lunch.

5th gr jazz band students & all 6th-7th gr students will play at the 8th grade graduation. Although school ends that day after the awards ceremony, we ask that jazz band students remain at school until the graduation ceremony is over (approx. 2pm). Students may wear nice free dress for the awards ceremony and will be given time to change at lunch for the band performance. PLEASE BE SURE TO SEND A SACK LUNCH for students to eat this day. All parents and students are invited to the ceremony and the reception that follows at 2:00pm. Thank you for your support of our graduates! Attire details: 
Girls: Red sport band uniform, tennis shoes, and wear hair in a ponytail with a red bow (short hair should also have red bow with no ponytail)

Preparing for Middle School...
As you look ahead to next year, it's time to start thinking like a middle schooler! Check out the attached checklists for middle school preparedness as well as the REQUIRED summer reading and writing information below for all students entering grades 6-8. All students will create a summer writing journal before the end of school to be used with their summer reading. Writing prompts will be included in the journal.
Middle School Summer Required Reading and Writing Enrichment:
With summer so close on the horizon and many of our middle school families making plans July and August, we wanted to provide some important information to consider as you look ahead to next year. Whether your child is going into 6th, 7th or 8th grade, there several key things you can do as a family over the summer months to usher in the start to a successful new year.  
Reading Requirements:
This summer all middle school students are being asked to select and read and respond to one award winning book of their choice (fiction or non-fiction). It can be any award and any age appropriate book.
Writing Requirements:
Students are creating a summer writing journal to take home with them complete with writing prompts. This has information for how to respond to the book they choose to read. In general though, students must have 1 entry per chapter, unless their book has more than 20 chapters. In that case, students are only required to complete 20 entries. Click here for a copy of the writing prompts. Students should bring their journal to school on the first day back in the fall. Please contact Mrs. Henzel with any questions about this summer enrichment assignment.

Studies show that students who are engaged academically during the summer months are more likely to start the school year successfully. Students entering 7th and 8th grades are strongly encouraged to select books within their lexile range (this is information that students already have). Lexile information can be checked by visiting www.lexile.com. Visit one of these links for reading lists:
Help your child get a good start to this summer project by selecting a book early in the summer. Completing this summer reading will allow students to exercise their critical thinking muscles over the summer and get a solid start to the new school year.

Middle School Textbooks and Materials PAST DUE:
Teachers have collected and checked in all textbooks. Anyone still owing a textbook should bring it to the office on Friday to avoid being placed on the non-participation list for the end of the year.
-Students whose textbooks show excessive damage will be referred to Mrs. Henzel for cost assessment, and parents notified of any fees involved.
 
Friday, June 9, ALL Middle School Projects and Tests Due:
Please note: Friday, June 9 is the LAST DAY for graded academic work!
All students have projects and tests that are due and/or will be administered during this final week of school. It is vital that students are here each day and set aside time at home in the evenings and over the coming weekends to work on final projects and study for tests.

Monday, June 12, Memory Verse Party
Students who have qualified by memorizing all memory verses for this year will be eligible for our end of the year celebration at Boomers from 9:30am-2:30pm.
-Please note: Students MUST complete the memory verse requirement in order to attend this trip, and should still plan to attend school if they do not qualify. Students who do not earn eligibility for this event may attend school during the normal hours and will be partnered with a younger class, or remain at home.
-Trip will include a 4 hour activity pass and lunch. There is no cost for this trip. Students may bring extra money if they wish for additional snacks or video games. 
-This trip will be preceded and followed by yearbook signing opportunities here at school

School begins at 8:20am for ALL middle school grades. Please be on time to homeroom, dressed for the awards ceremony or graduation. We CANNOT START REHEARSALS without all our students here on time!
6th and 7th Graders who are playing at 8th grade graduation:
8:20-12:00 - Class and awards ceremony. All students rehearse for graduation.
12:00 - Eat lunch with Mrs. Irwig. Be sure to send a sack lunch this day! No students are permitted to leave campus and there will not be enough time during the awards and graduation ceremonies to pick up lunch.
2:00 - School dismissed for 6th and 7th grade students.
8th Grade:
8:20-12:00 - Class, graduation rehearsal, awards ceremony. **Students MUST arrive on time to participate in graduation rehearsal.**
12:00 - Lunch ON CAMPUS with parents and/or in the Dining Room. Please do not leave campus during this time.
12:45 - Meet in the back of the dining room for graduation
2:00 - Graduation reception. Students may leave with parents any time during or after the graduation reception.
