Welcome Kellye Carroll, Preschool Director!
We are pleased to welcome Kellye Carroll as our new Preschool Director! Kellye is not new to City Tree, many of you may already know her as our teacher of  grades 4 & 5 last school year or from her work as a preschool  teacher from 2010-2012. In addition to her preschool experience at City Tree, Mrs. Carroll was a teacher and then assistant director at El Cajon Wesleyan Preschool from 2013-2016. Mrs. Carroll has a rich educational background that benefits our school. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Chapman University and her Master's Degree and teaching credential from the University of California at San Diego. Mrs. Carroll has completed the coursework for her doctorate degree and has begun her work on her dissertation. Mrs. Carroll & Mrs. Wadley are working closely together to make this the best possible transition for our children, parents, and staff. They have had the opportunity to work together this past week and will continue in close communication as Mrs. Wadley moves to her position at PLNU. We are thrilled that Kellye Carroll will direct City Tree's preschool. Please take time to introduce yourself and welcome her!

Parent Volunteer Needed to Sort Used Uniforms:
We are in need of 1-2 parent volunteers to sort and organize used uniforms to store in the back office. This job can be done at any time within regular office hours, Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. Please call the school office if you are interested in helping.

Volunteers Needed to Make Playdough:
We need parent volunteers to make playdough for our Preschool classrooms! Playdough is a very important tool and can easily be made at home. Click here for an easy recipe - you probably have everything you need right at home! Pick a time that works best, cook up some playdough, and drop it off in the office. Excuse our Mess!
During the summer months is the time we do lots of deep cleaning, floor waxing, painting, and repairs. When our custodial crew is cleaning a classroom they move the furniture out in the hallways. When your child's classroom is being cleaned they will typically be relocated for 2-3 days to another room. Thanks for your understanding!

Calling All Students Entering Grades 6-8 in the Fall...
Summer is here, and as your family makes plans July and August, we wanted to provide some important information to consider as you look ahead to next year. Whether your child is going into 6th, 7th or 8th grade, there several key things you can do as a family over the summer months to usher in the start to a successful new year.
Reading Requirements:
This summer all middle school students are being asked to select and read and respond to one award winning book of their choice (fiction or non-fiction). It can be any award and any age appropriate book.
Writing Requirements:
Students created a summer writing journal to take home with them complete with writing prompts. This has information for how to respond to the book they choose to read. In general though, students must have 1 entry per chapter, unless their book has more than 20 chapters. In that case, students are only required to complete 20 entries. Click here for a copy of the writing prompts. Students should bring their journal to school on the first day back in the fall. Please contact Mrs. Henzel with any questions about this summer enrichment assignment.
Middle School Summer Reading Resources:
Studies show that students who are engaged academically during the summer months are more likely to start the school year successfully. Students entering 7th and 8th grades are strongly encouraged to select books within their lexile range (this is information that students already have). Lexile information can be checked by visiting www.lexile.com. Visit one of these links for reading lists:
-You can also visit your local library!
Help your child get a good start to this summer project by selecting a book early in the summer. Completing this summer reading will allow students to exercise their critical thinking muscles over the summer and get a solid start to the new school year.

Middle School Summer Checklist:
Be on the lookout for our summer checklist and back to school letter in August. We look forward to a new and exciting year! Check out the  attached checklists for middle school preparedness for other helpful summer tips to ready your student for the fall.

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
