Spring Celebration
of the Arts
Save the Date
Thursday Evening, April 27, 2017

The Friends School Haverford Spring Celebration of the Arts showcases the creative expanse of our arts curriculum. Under the direction of our art teacher, Amy Kiely, a sampling of each student's artwork is exhibited throughout the school. Later in the evening, students in grades 1-8 will present a musical program, displaying a variety of styles, which is the culmination of their year-long study in music with Tr. Ed Nardi. There will also be a performance by the Kwaya Marimba Group. The kids worked hard, so please stay for the entire performance.

*Please note, all after-school activities will be CLOSED in preparation for the Spring Celebration. This includes Extended Day, LARKs, and ASAs.

Speaker Series

We kicked off our speaker series with a panel discussion on "Different Bodies, Different Minds, One Learning Community." Tr. Matt facilitated our four panelists: Adam Rosenblatt, Angela Putman, Amy McCann, and Al Vernacchio. Each presented their area of expertise including race, sexuality, inclusion, social justice, and neurodiversity which led to open discussion and interesting conversation. We hope to offer another panel discussion on a related topic in the fall.

Poetry Celebration

Grades 1/2 celebrated the end of their poetry unit of study with a poetry reading. Students read two poems they had written themselves and one poem from a favorite author for parents and special guests gathered on Wednesday evening.

"Just Because"

Several times this year faculty and staff received a thoughtful surprise from the PTO's  "just because" committee. This month's surprise was yummy carrot cake with a note of gratitude.
