Spring Celebration of
the Arts This Thursday
Thursday Evening, April 26
Art Gallery Viewing 6:00 pm Concert 7:00 pm

The Friends School Haverford Spring Celebration of the Arts showcases the creative expanse of our arts curriculum. Under the direction of our art teacher, Amy Kiely, a sampling of each student's artwork (NS - grade 8) is exhibited throughout the school. Later in the evening, students in grades 1-8 will present a musical program, displaying a variety of styles, which is the culmination of their year-long study in music with Tr. Ed Nardi. There will also be a performance by the Kwaya Marimba Group. The kids worked hard, so please stay for the entire performance.

*Please note, all after-school activities will be CLOSED in preparation for the Spring Celebration. This includes Extended Day, LARKs, and ASAs.

Puppies Visiting Tomorrow

For the past few weeks, we've been excited to get to know a litter of puppies that Kipper (our friendly Zones' dog) knows. We are watching them grow, thinking about their development as kind puppies in the world, and exploring "expected" behavior so that we can help them to feel comfortable when they come to visit. Please see the message below from Tr. Meg:

Comfort Cavaliers is excited to be puppy partnering with Friends School Haverford! Many of the classrooms have been involved with watching a litter of seven Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's development from just a few days old via a web cam. When the puppies are just four weeks old, we will be beginning weekly visits to the school so that the children can begin their "in person" and "hands on" learning experience with the puppies. We could not be more excited for both the children and the puppies. Part of our Comfort Cavalier mission is to raise puppies who will have the temperament, and early socialization to set them up for success as therapy dogs. Just by playing with puppies, your children are helping to set these puppies up for important futures. We are grateful to share this fascinating, and fun experience with your wonderful children.  Click here to watch the nest cam.

The Bunnies are Here!

Having an emergent curriculum here at FSH, students in Forest's Edge have shown a curiosity about animals and how to care for them. They now have a wonderful opportunity to host Eva, a mother rabbit, and her bunnies for a month in Heritage House. The bunnies arrived at only three days old! Students will get to name the bunnies and the school will be responsible for their care. Eva is a show rabbit from Quiver Farms and her bunnies will be up for adoption soon.  Click here for photos.
Earth Day Celebration

Seed stations for flowers and vegetables, learning the importance of clean water and water filtration systems, a close-up look at worms, and showing off the bunnies were just a few ways  Heritage House students celebrated Earth Day.   Click here
for photos.

Planets and the Solar System

Kindergarten is learning about the solar system and each of the planets. They took a walk over to the Observatory at Haverford College and met with some of the physics and astronomy college students to gain more knowledge. Using inflatable balls representing the planets and the sun, kindergartners practiced orbiting around the sun. They took turns observing sunspots through a sun spotter machine. For a special treat, they got to check out the telescope at the Strawbridge Observatory.   Click here for photos.
Water Cycle Study

Pre-Kindergartners simulated condensation and precipitation by adding blue water drops to a shaving cream cloud and watching the "rain" come down when it became too heavy with moisture.  Click here for photos.

Donate to the Annual Fund with Just a Click!

Please join the circle of families that support FSH students and teachers through the Annual Fund by making a gift to this effort before June 30, when the 2017-2018 Annual Fund campaign closes. Our Annual Fund gifts go beyond closing the gap between the amount of tuition we pay and the actual costs of educating our children. Every Annual Fund gift helps make the Friends School Haverford experience exciting, enriching, and memorable for each and every student.

Pretzel Fridays

This pretzel initiative is an opportunity to fundraise for middle school trips, build community, and engage with math skills in meaningful ways. The Carousel Connections crew and middle school math students will sell pretzels during the class snack times on Fridays. If you would like your child to receive a freshly baked pretzel, please send a $1 in with him/her. Please note that we will not have a pre-paid sale due to our focus on the math and money exchange. Thank you for supporting our pretzel sale!
