Spring Celebration
of the Arts
This  Thursday Evening, April 27, 2017
Opening Reception 6:00 pm | Concert at 7:00 pm

The Friends School Haverford Spring Celebration of the Arts showcases the creative expanse of our arts curriculum. Under the direction of our art teacher, Amy Kiely, a sampling of each student's artwork is exhibited throughout the school. Later in the evening, students in grades 1-8 will present a musical program, displaying a variety of styles, which is the culmination of their year-long study in music with Tr. Ed Nardi. There will also be a performance by the Kwaya Marimba Group. The kids worked hard, so please stay for the entire performance.

*Please note, all after-school activities will be CLOSED in preparation for the Spring Celebration. This includes Extended Day, LARKs, and ASAs.

First Thursday Coffee
with Head of School,
Michael Zimmerman

Thursday, May 4, 2017 |  8:00 am
Schoolhouse Community Room

What is the value of the arts? What is the value of the arts in education? What is your experience of the arts? Is there a meaningful arts educator who shaped who you are today? What role do the arts play in the Friends School Haverford program?

Please join me, music teacher Ed Nardi, and art teacher Amy Kiely on Thursday morning May 4 at 8:00 am. We will share our stories and look forward to hearing your stories too!

This is our last coffee of the year (there will be no First Thursday Coffee in June). Coffees afford an informal opportunity for parents to socialize, share feedback, raise issues, and ask questions. We will gather at 8:00 am to enjoy refreshments and each other's company. We will begin the meeting soon thereafter.

If the topic of this month's coffee is of interest to you but you are unable to attend the meeting, please feel free to contact  Nancy Hurley in the office to schedule an appointment to meet with me at a time that is convenient for you. Regular and forthright discussion, open lines of communication, and the exchange of ideas improve our community. I am grateful for your support. I am always happy to hear from you.

I hope to see you there,

Michael

Birds of a Feather

Forest's Edge has been watching the egg-filled incubator in their classroom for a week. On Monday the first chicks hatched. Grades 3/4 visited the Forest's Edge classroom to meet the baby chicks and everyone had a chance to hold them. Then the Forest's Edge students stopped by the 3/4 classroom to see the adolescent chickens residing there. Wonderful conversations comparing and contrasting the chickens at their different stages emerged. Some of the young chickens will move to our outdoor coop and some of the older chickens will retire happily to a nearby farm.
