First Thursday Coffee
with Head of School,
Michael Zimmerman

Thursday, April 5, 2018 | 8:00 am
Schoolhouse Community Room

What does it mean to be a Quaker school? What is Quaker history and philosophy? How are these subjects addressed in nursery school through eighth grade? What does one "do" during silent Meeting for Worship? Why did you choose a Quaker school for your child? Please join the chair of our faculty committee on Quakerism, Liza Ewen, and me for a conversation about Quakerism and how it is manifest at Friends School Haverford.

First Thursday Coffees provide an opportunity for parents to socialize, share feedback, raise issues, and ask questions of their own. We will gather at 8:00 am to enjoy refreshments and each other's company. We will begin the meeting at 8:15 am.

If the topic of this month's coffee is of interest to you but you are unable to attend the meeting, please feel free to contact  Nancy Hurley in the office to schedule an appointment to meet with me at a time that is convenient for you. Regular and forthright discussion, open lines of communication, and the exchange of ideas improve our community. I am grateful for your support. I am always happy to hear from you.

I hope to see you there,
Michael

Save the Date
Thursday Evening, April 26

Under the direction of our art teacher, Amy Kiely, a sampling of each student's artwork is exhibited throughout the school. Later in the evening, students in grades 1-8 will present a musical program, displaying a variety of styles, which is the culmination of their year-long study in music with Tr. Ed Nardi. There will also be a performance by the Kwaya Marimba Group. The kids worked hard, so please stay for the entire performance.

How to Raise Resilient Kids

As parents, we want our children to be emotionally resilient - able to handle life's ups and downs. But parents' ability to foster resilience in our children hinges a great deal on our own emotional resilience.

Donate to the Annual Fund with Just a Click!

Please join the circle of families that support FSH students and teachers through the Annual Fund by making a gift to this effort before June 30, when the 2017-2018 Annual Fund campaign closes. Our Annual Fund gifts go beyond closing the gap between the amount of tuition we pay and the actual costs of educating our children. Every Annual Fund gift helps make the Friends School Haverford experience exciting, enriching, and memorable for each and every student.

Pretzel Fridays

This pretzel initiative is an opportunity to fundraise for middle school trips, build community, and engage with math skills in meaningful ways. The Carousel Connections crew and middle school math students will sell pretzels during the class snack times on Fridays. If you would like your child to receive a freshly baked pretzel, please send a $1 in with him/her. Please note that we will not have a pre-paid sale due to our focus on the math and money exchange. Thank you for supporting our pretzel sale!
