A Flurry of Activity at the Legislature

This past week was a flurry of activity at the Minnesota Legislature and Dakota County. Committee deadline day was on Friday which always creates a "funnel" of policy issues - now the legislature can act and react to what's been left on the table. A few noteworthy items:

*Dakota County legislators met with your Chamber on Monday morning to discuss areas of commonality to identify at least one regional issue or project that all 18 elected officials would work together to achieve. Stay tuned for more.

*RealID was voted down last Monday by the Senate but reconsideration of the issue was agreed upon through a second vote later in the week. Watch for a cleaner version of the bill to move forward in the coming weeks. Many thanks to those of you that called or emailed your legislator on this important issue.

*We await the Senate's action of Uniform State Labor Standards. The House pass the bill in early March.

*Your Chamber testified at the Dakota County Board of Commissioners meeting last week on CTIB funding. Read more here about this important transportation issue.

*Sunday liquor sales will start July 2; Dayton signs bill.

The Vikings are Coming!

Construction on the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center continues at a rapid pace. Recently two major milestones were reached at the Minnesota Vikings new home; while steel work was completed on the team headquarters in February, the same work began last week on the 92,000 square foot indoor practice facility. The construction team anticipates a steel "topping off" to take place in April. Work on the four outdoor football fields will commence this spring.

Currently 21 subcontractors, including 17 Minnesota-based companies, are working on the project under the leadership of Kraus Anderson. To date more than 40,000 work hours have gone into the project.

Member Spotlight: Valuable Connections

Jeff Larson, Minnesota Energy Resources
I am the External Relations Manager at Minnesota Energy Resources. I've been working in the natural gas business since 1979 and I grew up with my father in the business so natural gas has been putting food on my table my entire life. I'm currently responsible for external affairs statewide. This includes working with commercial/industrial customers, government relations, growth projects, public safety awareness, charitable contributions and more. Membership and participation in Dakota County Regional Chamber has been important to me because it helps me develop valuable connections with local business leaders and to promote our product and our conservation improvement programs. Networking is a valuable tool to keep in touch with what's happening in our community and that helps us to provide good service to all. I've also made connections with people who I've been able to do business with in my personal life.
