100 Days of School Celebration

Kindergarten celebrated 100 days of school with a multitude of activities throughout the day. Everyone came to class sporting a creative shirt they decorated with the 100-day theme. There were stations of building blocks, legos, sticks, cups, gummies and much, more for counting to 100. Happy 100th day of school!  Click here for photos.
Gymnastics Show

Our gymnastics club put on a spectacular show for parents, teachers, and friends. They demonstrated tumbling and skills they learned on the springboard, beam, and trampoline over the past eight weeks. Way to go gymnasts!   Click here for photos.
Celebrating Black History Month in Spanish Class

To honor and celebrate Black History month, grades 3-8 Spanish classes have been watching excerpts of a documentary from Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. about black life and history in Latin America. Using the episode, "Mexico & Peru: The Black Grandma in the Closet" as a launching point, students have learned about the history of black people in these countries and had discussions about various facts and issues raised in the episode. For example, in Mexico and Peru Professor Gates explores the little-known histories of the significant numbers of black people in these countries. Starting in the 1500s with the arrival of the Spanish and the establishment of the Spanish colonies throughout the Americas, Mexico and Peru together received far more enslaved people than did the United States. Students were asked to compare and contrast the experiences of enslaved people in both countries and note the differences and similarities to what happened in the United States. Another aspect students were asked to reflect on was how the descendants of enslaved and free Africans have created unique worlds of culture in each country. We looked at how language, food, music, and politics can be used as ways for us to talk about the black experience and history in Latin America. We saw parts of an episode about Cuba to learn more about the powerful historical legacy left by the presence of black people on this island, specifically, and the Caribbean in general.  Click here for photos.

If you would like your child to receive a freshly baked pretzel, please send a $1 in with him/her. Please note that we will not have a pre-paid sale due to our focus on the math and money exchange.
