FSH Receives Grant From Friends Council on Education

The Friends Council on Education awarded Friends School Haverford a $2,000 grant to support our outdoor education water study program. A stream bed/water irrigation table was installed on the Forest's Edge property. This three-level cascading table with rocks, sand, shovels and buckets  simulates a river bed.  This is a great opportunity for Forest's Edge students to explore with water and learn about environmental stewardship.  They have shared the experience with their Grade 8 partners.
The Forest's Edge property also provides opportunities for fort building with natural materials and play in the mud kitchen. Click here for photos.

Social Justice Presentations

After months of research, writing, and perfecting their speeches, Grade 8 gave their final social justice presentations to their families, middle school students, and teachers. Topics included black lives matter, effects of terrorism, transgender bias, Islamaphobia, female representation in the media, Native American bias, and homelessness. Congratulations to Grade 8 for delivering intelligent, captivating, and well thought out speeches on important issues.

Brandywine Senior Living Visit

Forest's Edge students and our Carousel Connections friends visited Brandywine Senior Living along with a few of the bunnies. Our Brandywine friends read stories to the kids, colored with them, did puzzles together, and enjoyed meeting the bunnies.

Puppies

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies came by for their weekly "Zones" visit. They were outside and very active. The Zones topic was empathy and understanding how somebody else may feel. At this stage of their development, the puppies are learning new things and working through feelings of fear. Children shared about what they may be afraid of and how we can help the puppies feel comfortable in the "green zone"!  Click here for photos.

Math Education Opportunity

Move over bedtime reading, parents cozying up with their children over math puzzles is a wonderful way to promote a love of mathematics. We will be hosting a presentation of Dinner Table Math with award winning numeracy educator Dr. Angela McIver on Thursday, May 31 from 6 to 8 pm, with free childcare available.  Save the date! We hope to see you there.
Donate to the Annual Fund with Just a Click!

Please join the circle of families that support FSH students and teachers through the Annual Fund by making a gift to this effort before June 30, when the 2017-2018 Annual Fund campaign closes. Our Annual Fund gifts go beyond closing the gap between the amount of tuition we pay and the actual costs of educating our children. Every Annual Fund gift helps make the Friends School Haverford experience exciting, enriching, and memorable for each and every student.
