Congratulations Tr. Tuesday
Tr. Tuesday received the Teacher of the Year award from Main Line Parent Magazine. Our parents spoke, and they were heard! This is a wonderful honor for our school community. During the award celebration, the speaker expressed how so many parents commented on Tuesday's exceptional teaching. One parent's words particularly stood out. This parent wrote the top 5 reasons why Tr. Tuesday deserved this award:
5. Tr. Tuesday's amazing communication on a daily basis that shares information and strategies how best to help each child.
4. She maintains an incredible daily on- line sharing of all the wonderful lessons, stories, activities and blogs so that we as parents can experience each day in the life of her students.
3. I have never heard Tr. Tuesday raise her voice or ever seem flustered. She always sees each child's strengths.
2. Tr. Tuesday and her co-teacher, Tr. Kristin, begin each day with a yoga session to teach the kids how to calm their minds and bodies.
1. She teaches her preschoolers a unit on social justice every year. She somehow translates the great works of Nelson Mandela, MLK Jr. and Gandhi into age appropriate preschool lessons that the children carry with them even after they leave her very special classroom.
For the past several weeks, classes have discussed concepts related to the size of our problems and tools to use so that our reaction matches their size. Classes reflected on different problems that can happen throughout the day and with the help of our friendly pup, Kipper, placed them in the bin that matches their size. When listening to picture books, children also made connections to characters and their reactions. We discussed that if we met Alexander from Judith Viorst's favorite tale, we might fill his bucket by asking if he was "okay" or if he "needed help." Students also suggested that we give him a hug, flowers, split a cupcake, or purchase him a plane ticket to Australia. Creative problem solvers! This week, Kipper demonstrated that if he continues to be approached in problem after problem, his perception of their size grows. Children helped Kipper walk down from his "big problem" by filling his bucket and showing him tools to use along the way.
