A Message from Outgoing Chair Mark Lofthus

The state of the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce ... is very good. Membership is over 500 and program participation, financial support and membership satisfaction is high.

Attracting and keeping our members is possible through a robust set of services, education and networking. For instance, this year we introduced "Good Day Dakota County," a second-Monday luncheon event at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley, which brings fascinating speakers to our members. A regional marketing video, showcasing the Dakota County brand as a great place to live, work and do business, is in the works thanks to the support of many businesses. The "Emerging Leaders" group is actively engaging in service and growing friendships among the area's next generation of leaders. The Minnesota Vikings are well on their way to completion of their new headquarters in Eagan, and the Chamber will actively welcome them and support their dynamic new set of facilities. Visit the Chamber's website, follow us on Twitter,  read each Weekly Update and connect with us on Facebook to learn more.

As many of you know, our Chamber staff team is changing, with the departure of our president, Vicki Stute, for a new position at the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. We wish her well and hope to continue working with her in her new role. While our search is underway for a new president, a great staff will keep the Chamber running smoothly: Lori Oelrich, member relations director; Kelli Morgen, events and programs director; Pam Schmidt, office services coordinator; and Melissa Maggio, communications consultant. Please continue to turn to them for assistance. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Dakota County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Committed to Business... for YOU.
Seeking Policy Wonks

Your Chamber is gearing up for the 2018 Legislative Session and is seeking members interested in helping shape and advance policies to enhance the economic climate for businesses in the Dakota County region and State of Minnesota. Your issues and opinions drive our agenda at the local, state and federal levels. Whether advocating for labor management issues, quality health care that is affordable, tax reform, or workforce policy that ensures all students are college and career ready, we encourage your engagement in the process. To find out more and take the next steps toward involvement, contact Vicki Stute.
Remember to Start Using New Form I-9

Employers are now required to use the new version of the Form I-9 (dated 07/17/17). U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) first published the form in July. It has an expiration date of Aug. 31, 2019, and applies to new hires only. Employers should not complete new forms for current employees. Current storage and retention rules have not changed.

Emerging Leaders Clean-Up Project

The Emerging Leaders group partnered with  DARTS  on Wednesday to tackle a lawn clean-up project in Apple Valley. It was a beautiful day filled with weeding, trimming and pruning. Thank you to all those that participated. Your hard work is very much appreciated!

Member Spotlight: Building Relationships

Laurie Bolin, Director of Development, 360 Communities
I joined 360 Communities as a staff member in December 2007, however, I started as a volunteer with the organization over 24 years ago when I was the chair of the Lewis House Charity Golf Tournament. As the Director of Development for 360 Communities, I oversee all of the fundraising for the organization. For me, my job is about building relationships with individuals and business leaders in the community. As a member of the Chamber, I am offered many opportunities to network. It also allows me to share 360 Communities' story of serving our neighbors with healthy food and other stabilizing resources, assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and helping kids succeed in school. We could not do our work in the community without the partnerships we have with the business community. Businesses have been so generous with their support of our work, and together we are making our community a better place to live and work!
