The 15th Annual Footsteps for Friends 5K Race and Pumpkin Day is next Weekend!
Please show your support by running, walking, volunteering, donating, or sponsoring.
to Register for The Footsteps for Friends 5K or 1 Mile Walk/Fun Run.
VOLUNTEERS - If you would rather show your support by volunteering your time before, during or after the Race or Pumpkin Day, we would love to have your help!
SPONSORS - It's not too late to contribute! Help us reach our goal of $20,000!
This Spring, when financial aid applications come in, your donation will change a student's life for the better. Your impact will be immediate and significant to our school community - and it's tax deductible!
We are adding donor logos to the Race page daily, designing the new Race Banner and Tees, and we will wait until the last second to print so that as many sponsors are represented as possible. And, if your submission comes in late, we will advertise for you AGAIN at our Spring event as well!
PUMPKIN DAY - We are excited that Pumpkin Day is following Footsteps for Friends so that families have a full morning of fun on the beautiful FSH campus. Please feel free to invite friends and family to this event, which also supports the Quaker education. The suggested donation for Pumpkin Day is $5 per person or $20 per family, however, admission is free to sponsors and Footsteps participants. We are excited to share the joy of this beloved FSH tradition with all of you!
First Thursday Coffee
with Head of School,
Thursday, October 5, 2017 | 8:00 am
Schoolhouse Community Room
I am pleased to say that at Friends School Haverford we have the same passionate commitment to educating students about feelings, social interactions, and school and world culture as we do to educating students about subjects academic and intellectual.
Please join me, dean of students, Liza Ewen, and learning specialist, Amy McCann for a discussion of the social curriculum. Might you be willing to share your hard won social and
emotional insights? We look forward to hearing your stories too!
First Thursday Coffees afford an informal opportunity for parents to socialize, share feedback, raise issues, and ask questions. We will gather at 8:00 am to enjoy refreshments and each
other's company. We will begin the meeting at 8:15 am.
If the topic of this month's coffee is of interest to you but you are unable to attend the meeting, please feel free to contact
in the office to schedule an appointment to meet with
me at a time that is convenient for you.
Regular and forthright discussion, open lines of communication, and the exchange of ideas improve our community. I am grateful for your support. I am always happy to hear from you. Please feel free to come to First Thursday coffees with topics of your own for discussion.
I hope to see you there,
Head of School

Haverford Meeting for Worship
Haverford Meeting, next door to the school, would like you all to know that families are always welcome to attend Meeting for Worship on Sundays. We offer an hour of quiet reflection and community open to everyone. Our members and attenders come from a variety of religious traditions and welcome the time together to share our thoughts. The Meeting has child care every Sunday - for babies and toddlers upstairs from 10:30 am - 11:30 am. For our school-age children we have a new First-Day (Sunday School) program. Usually those older children go into meeting with their parents or caregivers for 15 minutes (same as at school) and then upstairs with Teacher Elizabeth for fun and learning. We don't have a creed to teach, just a child-centered community for all with values and informal lessons on men and women of courage. We also learn from the children what they are interested in and what they would like to share. Then we have coffee, tea, snacks and fellowship afterwards.
Please join us any Sunday you can. For more details, call Kate deRiel at 610-446-8383. Thank you!
Free Eye Care & Glasses for Kids - Give Kids Sight Day Returns Sat Oct 21st!
Please join us in helping to spread the word in the community!
Children 17 and under in Philadelphia (and surrounding counties) are invited to this free annual event for free eye care and eyeglasses. Sight Day is geared towards kids who did not have or did not pass an eye screening this year. Registration takes place from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at Jefferson Alumni Hall - and features eye screening, a health fair, free books, snacks and more.
No health insurance? No problem! All children are welcome. Walk-ins only, no appointment is needed! We do suggest families arrive early.
Please help us spread the word by sharing this email and/or Sight Day flyers with families in your community and passing them along to colleagues, partnering organizations, school nurses, classrooms, businesses and other interested parties. You can also print the flyer and put it on community bulletin boards, store windows and other key spots.
This flyer is translated into Spanish, Chinese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, French, and Khmer.

Each calendar is $15 and will benefit the PTO. It's perfect not only for your family, but for grandparents, caregivers, and your favorite teachers and staff as well.
