Winged Wonders: The Magic of the Monarch Butterfly PLUS The Hardworking Honeybee
This Saturday, September 23, 2017
10am - 12pm
851 Buck Lane, Haverford, PA 19041
Butterfly enthusiast and former Friends School Haverford teacher, Ann Ward, offers this unique butterfly program that teaches children about Monarch migration and the wonders of the outdoors. Children will have the opportunity to visit the butterfly house and discover how it feels to hold and feed a Monarch Butterfly, tag butterflies with tiny, numbered stickers (tags) through the University of Kansas Monarch Watch program and release them so they can make their 2,000 mile winter journey to Mexico.
And new to our program this year are The Hardworking Honeybees. Beekeeper Eli St. Amour gives children an up close look at honeycombs and how honey is extracted while discussing the role of bees in the hive and how the flowers and plants near a hive can flavor the honey. A honey extraction demonstration (no live bees will be present), pollination simulation station and large hive build are just some of the ways children will learn about the important role honeybees play in keeping our food crops alive.
Creative art projects, face painting, and a special snack will also be offered during this educational afternoon program. This event is not to be missed! We hope to see you there!
If you would like to volunteer to help at this event, please contact Lisa Buscaglia or call 610-642-0354.
Late Afternoon Recreation for Kids is designed to provide our students with opportunities for exploration, peer connections, and fun. Clubs offered in LARKS are taught by our own faculty and outside teachers. See individual club descriptions for complete information. LARKS is organized into three trimesters. A schedule for each of the three trimesters will be sent home before each session begins.

A Friendly Reminder From
Your Friends at Drop-off
The speed limit on campus is 5 mph.
If you're running late, we promise that your child will be quickly caught up on the few minutes missed. Please adhere to the speed limit for everyone's safety.
Please pull your car up as far as possible for each building.
We'd like to unload two or three cars at a time.
Please pull as close to the curb as possible.
It is a big jump from an SUV to the ground for our smallest students and some try to jump from the car to the curb, which can be dangerous.
If you arrive before 8 am, please remain in your car. We'll be there to help your child out by 8 am.
If you can't wait, please park in the shed area and walk your child to the Early Bird area and sign them in.
Please do not leave your car parked in the drop off area and walk your child in.
Please have your Friends School Haverford child seated in the back seat on the passenger side.
Exiting a car on the driver's side puts the student and the helper at risk.
Please do not get out of your car at drop-off.
We'll help your child and their school bag out of the car. Please be sure to get that extra goodbye hug at home.
If your child is resisting, please pull your car around to the shed to park.
You can then help your child over to the building door.
Thank you for helping to keep the morning transition running safely and smoothly!
Calling All Volunteers
Please show your support by running, walking, volunteering, donating, or sponsoring. The race itself includes a large portion of the gorgeous Haverford College Nature Trail, which is happily quite flat! This year, Footsteps for Friends combines forces with Pumpkin Day, a popular Friends School tradition, involving games, races, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, fall treats and hot apple cider. From morning until noon, join us for a family (and pet) friendly celebration of Fall, friendship and Friends School Haverford. Join us after the race for the awards ceremony and stick around to enjoy the festivities of Pumpkin Day! It will surely be a wonderful event!
To Register for the 5K Race for 1 Mile Walk/Fun Run, visit our Race Page:
You can make yourself a fundraiser during registration so that friends and family can sponsor you directly.
Another way to participate is by helping us collect donations and sponsorships from local businesses. This will go toward your fundraising total. Please click here for a sponsorship form. If you have a business or know of businesses who would be interested in this type of advertising/sponsorship opportunity, please contact me directly. All donations are tax deductible.
If you are interested in volunteering, we are in need of help on race day to assist with multiple areas and will need help with Pumpkin Day as well. Thank you for your time!
