We're All About Your Growth

Kelli Morgen's first day at the Chamber was last Monday. Needless to say, we were all excited when she came back again on Tuesday!  Kelli joins the rest of the team with a goal of continuing to grow your Chamber.  We believe when the Chamber grows, you benefit through a greater number of members to network and do business with.  It also provides an even big voice in public policy to move business-friendly legislation forward. Here's what Kelli had to say about her first week:

"It was an exciting first week! I've been introduced to a lot of members during several events including the Dakota County State of the County Address, Why Not Wednesday, Express Window Fashions' Ribbon Cutting, and the Legislative Breakfast. It's been enjoyable to attend these events, and learn how the Chamber advocates for its members.  I look forward to learning more about each of your businesses and working with youl!"

Please help us welcome Kelli. You can reach Kelli by email or at 651.288.9203.

Committed to Business... for YOU.
Your Chamber at Work for You

As a proud member of the Chamber Federation, your Chamber had the opportunity to meet with Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka this past week and discuss our top policy priorities. Most key issues are now awaiting action via conference committee or Senate and House votes.

As legislators head home for spring break, please urge their support of your priorities:

Meaningful Tax Relief. Not just removing the inflator on the statewide business property tax, but a reduction in the levy. Estate tax, Section 179 and the R & D credit are important too.
Uniform Statewide Labor Standards.  Explain the administrative burden that a patchwork of local mandates creates.   Urge your Senator to vote for the bill when it comes to the floor after break.
Transportation Investment.  The message is clear - pass a bill this year that funds roads, bridges, and transit.
Finally, remind them of the importance of having the REAL ID Legislation signed into law.

Your voice does make a difference! Thank you for your ongoing support.

The Vikings Are Coming!
Vikings & Minnesota State High School League Begin Partnership Discussions

Vikings executives have addressed the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) regarding potential partnership opportunities at the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center and TCO Stadium in Eagan.

With the 6,000-seat (expandable to 10,000) TCO Stadium adjacent to the headquarters, the Vikings envision hosting multiple high school sports, including football, soccer and lacrosse.  The concept is primarily centered on a regular-season Friday Night Lights in which rival high school football teams around the state could perform in front of their fans on the same field their professional counterparts use for practice. Making the proposal even more unique is the potential airing of the games on vikings.com and local TV through the expanded Vikings Entertainment Network (VEN) studio and enhanced broadcast capabilities. The partnership could extend beyond the field to include the assistance of high school students interested in a journalism career in such broadcasts. Click here to read more.

Member Spotlight: Meaningful Conversations

Kate Misukanis, Rasmussen College
I am the Government Relations Director for Rasmussen College and serve the Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Kansas campuses. While I feel pulled in many directions and states, participating in this Chamber has created a sense of community for me. I have found amazing women through the Women's Circle and that has led to many meaningful conversations that have helped me grow in my career and personally. I am also on the Government Affairs Committee and served on the PAC Board this past election cycle. We have some amazingly talented and wicked smart members, all of who pushed me to dig deeper into policy and also provided another network to tap as I do my work at the Capitol. I enjoy attending the monthly Legislative Breakfasts and walk away with my cup full of knowledge that has helped me make decisions and has introduced me to some of the  "tough" to get legislators. I have thoroughly enjoyed the staff and membership and being a part of the community in which I work and live!!
