Over the past few months, your Chamber has been soliciting feedback on our events and programs from members through focus groups, surveys and good old-fashioned conversation. As we move into our next fiscal year on October 1, we wanted to give you a sneak peek at the new programming.

Good Day Dakota County: T
his monthly, general membership meeting will offer attendees an opportunity to learn from informative and entertaining guest speakers, hear about local and regional business issues, and network with other Chamber members. Join us on October 10!

Holiday Reception: All members are invited to our Holiday Reception on Thursday, December 15 starting at 4:30 p.m. Mark your calendars and watch for details.

ChamberLead:
ChamberLead is performance-based and designed for sales-oriented business professionals interested in growing their bottom line through good quality referrals. This group accommodates only one member per industry.

Peer2Peer Roundtable: This group provides the opportunity to network with your business peers; stay abreast of new developments through learning and sharing at each meeting; and achieve personal growth through educational topics relevant to your professional responsibilities. This group accommodates only one member per industry. 

Local Business Councils: Business councils in Eagan, Farmington, Mendota Heights, Rosemount and West St. Paul will meet on a quarterly basis. This is an opportunity for members to meet with city leaders to discuss what's happening in the community and in your business.

Your Chamber is Fighting for Family-Owned Businesses  
  
Your Chamber recently signed on to a letter to Dept. of Treasury Secretary Jack Lew urging the withdrawal of new estate tax regulations recently released by Treasury. These proposed regulations would severely limit the ability of many business owners to pass their companies down from one generation to the next by restricting the use of minority valuation discounts for estate tax purposes.  If you'd also like to sign the letter please contact Vicki by end of day today.  Read Letter.  
Chamber Federation Letter: Table is Set for Special Session

Minnesotans have been delivered the disappointing news: "Special session talks are dead." For months, we watched as Governor Dayton and legislative leaders tried to negotiate a special session to finish the work of the regular session - to pass bipartisan tax and bonding bills that included transportation improvements, addressing another priority of the 2016 session. We urge Dayton and legislative leaders to commit to convene an
immediate special session to pass the tax and bonding bills. Nearly 90 percent of legislators supported the tax bill that was pocket-vetoed by the governor.
Are You Busy on November 8? 
  
Absentee ballots are now being accepted for the general election on November 8. Even if you aren't busy on November 8, you can still vote by absentee ballot. This is the first year that eligible voters in Minnesota don't need an excuse to vote absentee. Simply Massage & Spa joined the Chamber a little over a year ago and it has been a fantastic investment. I love learning about other businesses and how I can help them. It's also allowed me to share our great story about all the customized, therapeutic massage, facial, waxing, tinting and lash extensions that we offer. Once people learn that we provide the full hands on time that they purchase, in addition to providing complimentary aromatherapy & hot spa towel treatments they realize that we really are the best value around and quickly become clients and referral partners. Going to the Chamber's Coffee Breaks and Women's Circle are a great way to meet other local business owners in a casual, no pressure atmosphere. I have built some great personal and professional relationships by attending these events. Being a Chamber member is a good fit for me and my business because the membership really is what you make of it. You can participate as much or as little as you like and have time for. The more you participate, the more you get out of your membership!

Dakota Electric is also hosting an open house for students, teachers and parents to provide information about many of the interesting careers in energy. Energy companies are projecting that 30-50% of its workforce will be eligible to retire in the next 10 years and many of these positions have starting salaries of $45,000 - $60,000 a year. The open house will be held on Monday, October 17 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Dakota Electric.
