Dear Family and Friends,
We have finished our first week of MAP testing which focused on reading skills.  The next two weeks focus on math and then lastly language usage skills.  As teachers continue to reminded their students of the importance of getting a good night's rest, remembering to bring their healthy snack and doing their best on the MAP test, we ask your support as parents to continue to create that fall school routine.
Top 20 Parent Night is Tuesday, October 10 th from 6:00 - 8:30 pm.  Mr. Paul Bernabei, founder of Top 20, will be sharing the Top 20 message.  This will be our third year of hosting a Top 20 event for our school.
Mr. Bernabei's will be sharing the message of human being precedes human doing is where, as a school family, want to live each day.  It is through this model of social-emotional learning that our children will grow into confident learners who can celebrate confusion!  We know that it is in the times when a child is confused that they have the most opportunity to grow academically as confusion takes a student out of their comfort zone and into analytical thinking.   As a community "We have the power of choice" each day as to where we want to live emotionally with ourselves, our children and each other.  It is through our Top 20 program that we create a culture where all student are important and in which they feel confident.
Each year, after our Top 20 parent's night, many parents approach Paul or myself and state one of the following:
  • I wish I would have attended this event the first year Paul came to our school, these concepts I should be using in my home.
  • Now that I have experienced this evening we need all parents to attend!
  • Thank you, this was life changing for me personally.  My children begged me to come.  I am glad I listened to them!
New families will be receiving their parent journal next week.  The purpose of the journal is to support your child's and your individual journey by explaining the Top 20 practices and principles we want to imbed in our families and school community.

bandA Note from Sean Prichard on kicking off Band this year

Greetings, parents!

I really enjoyed being able to see your kids last week during instrument demonstrations, and I'm excited to start working with them this week!

We're still finalizing our schedule, and are hoping to have instruments for our new musicians delivered to the school on Friday, if you are working with Eckroth music. If you have any questions about that process, don't hesitate to ask!

For the students returning to band at St. Michael's, please bring your instrument and lesson book to school, because you will be starting your lesson either tomorrow afternoon, or Friday afternoon, depending on your instrument.

This first week will be getting everyone up to speed in their lessons, and next week we will add the rehearsal after school.

Best regards,
Sean Prichard
