Weekly Update

Don't Miss This Month's Third Thursday!
THIS THURSDAY!

May's Third Thursday event will be held at the
Missipi Brewing Co. on May 19th from 5:30-7:30.

This month's corporate supporters for our event are
 Kent Corporation and HON.

Come and enjoy some great food, conversation, and a bags tournament! We will be in the beer garden with at least four sets of bags set up, so get practicing!

If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll have an indoor bags tournament.

The winners will go home with an awesome prize!

See you there!

Something New!

Stick around after our regularly scheduled Third Thursday events for the new Third Thursday After Dark!

Feel free to hangout, let your hair down, and continue to network. Depending on the venue we may be just socializing, playing cards, maybe even a board game! Who knows, but it will always be a fun time.

Our first Third Thursday After Dark will be held after the June Third Thursday event. We will be creating the event on Facebook as well as providing more information as the time draws nearer.

Hometown: Muscatine

Other places you've lived: Iowa City

Employer: I currently work as a diabetes sales specialist with AstraZeneca, and I help manage our family's tree farm near Wildcat Den State Park. I'm also running for the 91st District in the Iowa House of Representatives, which covers most of Muscatine County.

Position: I help providers and patients in Southeast Iowa find affordable solutions to their prescription drug costs.

College/Major/Education Background: After attending Kirkwood Community College, I graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in political science.

Previous employer/positions or general overview of experience: At age 18, I purchased my first small business, the Tipton Maid-Rite, and went on to own several other small businesses, including the Clam Shell Diner in downtown Muscatine. After my experiences as an entrepreneur, I decided to go back to school and worked at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Conference Center to help pay my tuition-starting as a server and eventually working my way up to managing the concierge lounge. Throughout my professional life, I've also taken an active role in serving the community-whether it's implementing recent forestry improvement plans to serving on the fundraising board for the Muscatine Art Center.

What do you like to do for fun? When I'm not in meetings or working on the farm, I enjoy hiking, hunting, and fishing.

Why did you join YPN? I enjoy being a member of YPN because it's a great way to meet other individuals and to stay in touch with other young professionals.

What is your favorite YPN event? I really enjoyed the beer and food tasting at Hy-Vee. Both the brewmaster and the Hy-Vee chef were very passionate and knowledgeable, and the food was amazing!

What event would you like to see YPN do? I've enjoyed all of the YPN events, and I'm sure whatever else they do will be great. I enjoy hanging out with everyone, and as a state representative, I hope to grow our membership with some new young professionals who move to town.

Anything else? I really enjoy traveling. I take periodic trips to India to
volunteer at a free eye clinic for impoverished locals. As a student at the University of Iowa, I took classes in Hindi to avoid the need of an interpreter, and I earned a Stanley Scholarship to attend the American Institute of Indian Studies in Jaipur, India. My experiences in India are a large reason why I work in the health-care field today.
