Cat
of the Week - Willy
On July 6, 2008 Turpentine Creek Staff received a call to rescue
two cats, Willy and his cage mate Eva, from Eureka Springs,
Arkansas. The former owners health was failing and he was forced to
move from his home, thus leaving the cats in desperate need of
lifelong refuge. Willy and Eva were very healthy but needed to be
sedated to load for the trip. They recovered well and have joined
the TCWR family. Willy has soon bacame the lead Lion when they are
carolling.

Sunday
- Thursday Lodging Special!
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge is having a
special on our Safari Lodging during the week days (Sunday thru
Thursday). The rooms are normally $150/day but until the end of the
year you can enjoy our Safari Lodging, the awesome view, the native
wildlife, the gas fire pit, the hot tub, and the refuge, all at a
new, low, week day rate of $115. This is a great time to bring a
friend or a few couples and enjoy the experience of the lions
caroling and the coyotes howling throughout the night while you sip
your favorite beverage by the fire. I just can't say enough about
this fabulous opportunity. Take advantage of this price reduction.
To book your winter get away at this price you must call
(479-253-5841) to book your room and mention "Internet Special" to
the person on the phone. See ya around the fire....

Boomer
Ball
The other day I saw Detroit,
a male tiger, caring a tan boomer ball to the top of the hill in
his habitat. The strength of these cats can be so amazing. Some of
those balls can weigh over 70 lbs yet they pick them up with such
ease and thrash them around like a dog would with his favorite chew
toy. When he reaches the top of the hill, he releases the ball from
his grip and chases it back down as if it were prey. Back at the
bottom of the hill, he finally catches up to it and sinks his teeth
in it before he begins his journey back to the top of the hill.
Once there he shakes it from side to side in a machismo display to
get the attention of Missy, a female tiger in the other lockdown,
before chasing it back to the bottom. There is no telling how much
longer this went on, but I had to go back to work. Before I head to
lunch I decide to take a quick peek to see how Detroit was doing
and what I notice this time is that he now has his bigger blue ball
at the top of the hill, maybe the small tan one was not getting the
attention he wanted.
To purchase a ball for your favorite cat go to www.boomerball.com. Fill out the "send to" info
for the refuge and make sure to write a note with the name of which
cat gets the ball in the comment section.
