Florida: Supreme Court Clears House Map, Rejects Senate Plan
 On Friday, the Florida Supreme Court issued an opinion rejecting the state's newly enacted house map- requiring the legislature to reconvene in an extraordinary legislative session to draw a new map. read more |

New York: Congressional and State Legislative Maps Emerge
Last week, the special master appointed to come up with New York's congressional districts released a map that wiped away one Democrat and one Republican district to comply with the state's loss of two seats in its congressional delegation.
GOP lawmakers are not happy with the map but so far the legislature has been unable to agree on any alternative map. read more |

Texas: Litigants Put Pressure on San Antonio Panel to Change its Map
Nearly two weeks ago a federal panel in San Antonio temporarily quelled the redistricting crisis in Texas by adopting interim maps that appeared to: 1) satisfy most of the litigants and; 2) carefully subscribed to the Supreme Court's direction on how to draw interim maps that both respected the original lines drawn by the legislature and corrects any potentially invalid features as determined by its preliminary legal assessment of whether certain claims against the maps are likely to be successful.
Unfortunately developments in the preclearance case for the maps in Washington, D.C. could mean that the San Antonio's conclusions about the congressional map missed at least one critical finding. read more |
