Welcome!
A Note from Jon McCann

Dear Families and Friends -

Welcome to the 2014-2015 School Year!  We are excited to welcome back ECS families and students, and to meet the numerous new students and families joining us this year.  Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Please join me at the ALL SCHOOL Welcome Back Meet and Greet on Monday, August 18th, from 5-7 PM at the Lower School.  Join ALL ECS faculty for this informal "welcome back" event to meet and mingle with teachers and faculty before the first day of school.

Upper School Principal, Justin Aglio will formally welcome Upper School families and students with a few remarks in the Park Place parking lot (filled with tents and tables of our Upper School Faculty!) at 5:15.  Lower School families and students can meet and greet Lower School Principal, Tawana Cook, in the main foyer of Park Place, and then check out classrooms and check in with teachers. Please note this is a change from previous years -- but a chance for our entire community to come together to kick off the new year!

Due to final occupancy review and last minute renovation needs, ECS will hold an "Check Out the New Space Event" for all ECS families to see the changes to the Upper School on later in September. During this event, families can check out the new space, and enjoy the beautiful updates that have been carefully aligned with our mission. Thank you for understanding this minor construction delay and our need to move Meet and Greet to Park Place School. We appreciate your patience in allowing us some extra time to prepare for student arrival on August 20th.

ECS building leaders met with PCO representatives yesterday to talk through the last minute adjustment to this event. Thank you to that team for helping us to brainstorm a solution to this challenge!

We understand that due to your family's busy schedules, everyone might not be able to attend this event.  Please remember that ECS has an open door policy and that you are always able to schedule a time to meet with any staff members. If you wish to set up an appointment, please e-mail your child's teacher directly or feel free call the Main Office at each school.  We want to see you!

Finally. I saw this on the Mount Vernon School (a progressive school we look to often) twitter feed this week, and I thought it might be a way for us to launch into the upcoming school year, as a way to remember how "to be" with each other to inspire children, and to do our best work.  Their norms as school moving forward resonated with me, and I hope make an impact for you as well as you support your student, engage with our school, and help us grow extraordinary students into extraordinary adults:

Start with questions.

Fail up.

Share the well.

Assume the BEST.

And have fun.

Thank you for continuing to support ECS.  We look forward to an amazing year!

Best,
Jon McCann

REMINDER! Please use compassion and model positive citizenship when parking in our Park Place Community!  Events can often create added stressors to our community.  We can be stewards by parking responsibly, using crosswalks, and leaving the space BETTER than when we arrived. Thank you for your support.
