Hey, Spartans!

I hope you all enjoyed your spring break! First, we would like to thank everyone that came to our 120th year kick-off event on March 1st. We are excited to begin the celebration of our 120th year as an organization!

Recently, members from the A.S. Lobby Corps traveled to Sacramento for the California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS) to lobby against the potential tuition increase. Your student representatives from all 23 CSUs advocated against this increase. Unfortunately, the CSU Board of Trustees passed the increase to be effective next academic year. Despite the decision, please remember that the student voice is very important! If you are interested in lobbying, please contact Juritzi Torres Mendoza, A.S. Director of External Affairs, who also chairs the A.S. Lobby Corps committee.

A.S. Elections are in full swing with campaigning already underway!  Please join us at the Campus Village Quad (CVB Quad) this Thursday, April 6, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for the Meet Your Candidates Mixer. Also, the Voter Information Guide (VIG) is now available online or you can pick up a copy at any A.S. department. To view the VIG, event schedule, and general elections information, please visit as.sjsu.edu/vote. Voting begins Monday, April 10th (immediately following the candidates debates) and will end Thursday, April 13th at 8:00am. Join us for the Elections Results Party, 12:00pm at Smith/Carlos Lawn. Don’t forget to cast your vote!

Mark your calendars as Associated Students has many events taking place this month! The. A.S. Programming Board will be hosting Trashion Fashion on April 20th and Diversity Day on April 27th. The A.S. Finance Committee will be hosting the 3rd annual Spartan Showcase on April 19th. This event showcases student organization accomplishments with the use of funding from Associated Students. Come support your fellow Spartans!

The Division of Student Affairs is supporting SJSU Night at the Giants on Friday, April 14, at 7:15pm at AT&T Park. Tickets are being sold at a subsidized price for students.

Lastly, we would like to invite you to the 6th Student Leadership Gala on Wednesday, May 3rd, at 5:00pm in the Diaz Compean Student Union Ballroom. We will announce and recognize this year’s recipients of the A.S. 55 award and recognize Registered Student Organizations who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to San José State University and the community.

Spartan Squad T-Shirt Design Contest
Submit entries by Friday, April 7th

Design the 2017-2018 Spartan Squad shirt. 5,000+ Spartan Squad Shirts handed out to students. Contest rules:
  • Designer must be a current SJSU student in spring 2017.
  • Design will be used for front of shirt only.
  • Use of Spartan Squad logo not required.
  • Shirt will remain gold. Design should be a 2-color design in blue and white (recommended but not required).

A.S. Scholarships
Open until Monday, May 1st

Students awarded an Associated Students scholarship demonstrate exemplary leadership and involvement in campus and community life.

Apply through the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office. Scholarship funds will be released for the  2017-2018 academic year.
