Sweeny Elementary

July 23, 2018

Dear Sweeny Families,

On behalf of Team Sweeny, we are pleased to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year!  Soon you and your child will be walking the halls of Sweeny Elementary!  While this is a very exciting time, it is also a time riddled with questions and perhaps, some apprehension, concerning various aspects of another school year. Although it is impossible to answer all of your questions in this newsletter, the following information will give a brief overview of Sweeny Elementary.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at school. We look forward to working with you and your children. Enjoy the remainder of your summer!

Important Beginning of the Year Documents

You will need to return the following  3 items found below by  Wednesday, August 15th:

1. Procedure and Policy Acknowledgement Page
Completion of this  form indicates acceptance and understanding of the procedures and policies in the  student handbook.  The forms must be signed by parents and students. If your child is too young to sign, please place student initials in the "student signature" area.

2. Student Health Inventory Form
This important  form provides us with information regarding your child's health and how we can support him or her at Sweeny. Don't forget that all vaccinations must be up to date and on file with the school nurse.  Email  Nurse Sarah with any questions.

3. Free and Reduced Meal Application
This allows us to secure all possible resources for our school. We ask all families complete this  form even if there is no plan to use the benefit.

All lunch money will need to be placed in an envelope with your child's name, child's teacher, and amount on the outside of the envelope.  All students with a negative lunch balance greater than $20.00 will receive a "Tiger Lunch" consisting of peanut butter and jelly.

You can return all forms at Open House, during office hours, or send them with your child on the first day of school. Forms will be available at Open House for families, as well.  Kindergarten families have already completed the Procedure and Policy Acknowledgement Page and Student Health Inventory forms and will not need to return them to school.

Important School Day Information

School Start Time:
8:30 a.m. (Doors will open at 8:10 a.m.)

School End Time:
3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday
2:30 p.m. on Fridays only for early release (see below for details)

Arrival Procedures:
Students will proceed directly to their classrooms unless they need to eat breakfast. If eating breakfast, they will eat in the cafeteria first.

Dismissal Procedures:
Bus riders will be directed to the bus lanes at the front of the school. Students who are car riders will sit on the back porches until called from the car line which will be at the back of the school. You must have a car line sign to pick your child up. You can pick up your car line sign at Open House. A map and important facts to remember regarding our car line can be found on our website under the resources tab located HERE. In order for our car line to run effectively and efficiently, please do not line up prior to 3:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m of Fridays, due to the traffic congestion that it causes. Also, keep in mind that we typically have our car line complete within 10 minutes of dismissal.

Weekly Friday Early Release

As a reminder, the Republic School District has early release on Fridays. Students will be dismissed at 2:30 on Fridays. To review the schedule, learn more about early release, and find answers to frequently asked questions, click HERE
