Dear McKenna Families:
On behalf of the McKenna PTA Executive Committee, I would like to extend our warmest welcome to all our families. Whether you are a returning family or new to McKenna, we are excited to begin the new school year together.
To help keep you up-to-date on the latest happenings with the PTA, we offer several forms of communication. Our website www.mckennapta.com is where you can find everything you need to know including information on all PTA related events, so check back often for updates! We have a closed PTA Facebook group called J.P. McKenna Elementary PTA; please request to join. We will be sharing photos and information on activities at our school in addition to information that affects both McKenna and our wider Massapequa school community. Lastly, we send emails and reminders via the Remind App for upcoming events. Check the PTA website for instructions on how to sign up.
Online registration for PTA membership is now open! Please be sure to sign up, and encourage your spouse to do the same. First member is $10; $7 for each additional family member. Please check our website and Facebook page for the link to register.
Over the summer, the PTA Executive Board has been hard at work planning programs and events for the upcoming school year. Some events to look forward to this month are the Boo Hoo/Yahoo Breakfast for our kindergarten parents, Back to School BBQ, and our annual Harvest Fair.
Our events are successful because of the volunteers who dedicate their time to our children and the PTA, and equally as important are the families that support these events. Each one of us possesses different skills, talents and resources that are greatly needed to make McKenna PTA a success. For some it’s volunteering as a class parent, for others, running or joining a committee that brings something special to our students. Even one hour can make a difference. We hope you will take the opportunity to volunteer this year.
We have PTA meetings planned in the mornings, and evenings to accommodate all schedules. Our first morning meeting will be September 18
th
at 9:30 AM. Our first evening meeting is October 16
th
at 7:30PM. Our hope is that you will find attending PTA meetings a valuable use of your time and that when you leave our meetings you are informed about what is going on at our school, and in the school district, including the Board of Education.
We want informed members so we can fulfill our primary mission - advocacy. Together we can affect change at the local level that will impact all our children and ensure each one of them enjoys a quality education, in a healthy and safe environment.
