November 2013                                          Vol 2.9

Welcome!
November is the month that many of us decorate our home with gifts from the season. In my home, tiny orange and white pumpkins will adorn my English Pine cupboard. Outside, I will dig some holes in my perennial garden and plant fabulous cabbages that tolerate the frost.

It's also a time to think of family gatherings as we look to Thanksgiving. In this issue of The Style Report we provide some inspiration for holiday table settings, decor, and for the first time ever -- Thanksgivukkah. Two holidays that fall on the same date -- Thanksgiving and Hanukkah- are highlighted in this issue. Since my family celebrates both, you can be sure there will be a lot of turkey and latkes around our holiday table.

In addition to celebrating, it's a time to reflect on all of the people and things we are thankful for. My family and friends, like most of you, are first on my list. The opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients and talented people that are a part of our company is a true blessing. Thanks to all of you for subscribing to The Style Report and sharing in our ideas and stories.

We wish you all a very  Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome Guests In Style This Season
The change of season and the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday are the perfect reason to refresh your home inside and out. Enhance your home decor with color and style that will welcome guests throughout the season.

Accessorize Inside and Out
From the front door to your home's most popular gathering spots, accessorize! Greet guests at your front door with a creative arrangement of pumpkins, gourds, cabbages and mums. Create inviting, warm spaces to relax and entertain throughout the interior of your home by putting away summer and early fall decor and adding new accents. Rich velvets, jewel toned pillows, wool like tapestry rugs and even new winter drapes will transform your home.
Layer your fireplace mantle with candles and seasonal accents to create a focal point in your home.

A Natural Tabletop
Look to nature to inspire your fall tabletop. Burnt oranges, deep yellows, warm greens, plums and beautiful reds translate great from the outdoors to bring color into your home decor. Add dried or faux fruit such as cranberries, acorns, pomegranates or apples for a mix of color and texture to your table setting this season.

Rustic Luxe
If your style is more chic, decorate for the season and create a warm, inviting space with rustic elements paired with metallic golds. Guests will want to linger long after the meal is served in this glamorous setting. DIY your own rustic luxe centerpiece with small sugar pumpkins and metallic paint and candles.

Selling A Home? Study Proves Stage First If You Want To Get It Sold
Our clients know firsthand the benefits of staging BEFORE listing to get their property sold and for top dollar, but many sellers are still reluctant to stage. Many sellers may think their house is updated enough or say they just want to test the market before investing in staging.

Helene and Bill, clients of PJ & Company, were the perfect example of a seller skeptical of staging. Having updated their home several times over the years, they didn't think it would be difficult to sell. After four months and no offers they decided to give staging a try. Once staged, their home had increased interest in the first weekend and by Monday they received and accepted an offer.

New study findings recently released by the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA), may finally convince more homeowners why an investment in staging before listing is critical.

Key Study Findings
  • From January 2012 - December 2012 RESA studied 89 un-staged homes that were previously on the market on average 166 days.
  • After the homes were professionally staged, the homes received their first offer within 32 days, with nine of the homes receiving multiple offers.
  • In studying another sample of homes, RESA evaluated 359 homes that were staged before the homes ever went on the market.
  • The homes, on average, received offers within 26 days after being professionally staged and listed. Nearly 70 of those homes received multiple offers too.

"Our study proves it does not benefit the home owner to list their property first to see if it will sell," according to RESA. "When [home owners] invest in staging before listing, they sell 87 percent faster."

The First Thanksgivukkah
A convergence of Thanksgiving and the start of Hanukkah is bringing these two holidays together at the table. This rare occurrance won't happen again for 70,000 years (so you'd better celebrate Thanksgivukkah this year or you'll miss out!). We've compiled a few festive ideas inspired by this unique celebration of two holidays on the same day.

Festive Thanksgivukkah Centerpieces
Feature a menorah as the centerpiece of your Thanksgiving dinner table alongside a display of gourds, pumpkins and flowers. Mix traditional Hanukkuh symbols with seasonal decor as well as festive colors representing both holidays.  Blues, oranges and golds will create a festive, seasonal tabletop.

New Twist on Traditional Foods
Nothing completes holiday entertaining in style than great food. Thanksgivukkah is inspiring an infusion of seasonal flavors in traditional foods like the Jewish Latke -  a traditional Hanukkah favorite.

Try a recipe for Sweet Potato-Apple Latkes or Potato Latkes with Cranberry Jam.

The convergence of these two special holidays -- Thanksgiving and Hanukkah --more than ever reminds us to give thanks to those who support our community. A contribution to Habitat for Humanity, your local Food Pantry, the Humane Society, or the numerous homeless shelters in our neighborhoods, remembers those in need and emphasizes the true spirit of the season.
Perfect Gifts To Say Thanks
If you aren't entertaining guests in your home, think about bringing the perfect gift to your host.

Gifts for the home such as salt & pepper shakers, linen cocktail napkins, silver bottle openers, metallic picture frames, milled soaps, faux fur throws will long outlast your visit and may even get you an invitation for next year's festivity!
