Welcome to E-Connect
Happy Tuesday!

Welcome to the first E-Connect of August, officially the happiest month of the year as we celebrate Happiness Happens month. The stories you will read today definitely fit the criteria as we talk about an exciting technology to enhance patient care, a colourful fundraiser to support local children, and our first spotlights on happy people at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.

Have a great day,
Maciah
Our Patients
The Future of Patient Care
The use of technology to enhance patient care is flourishing at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare as new technology from Oculys Health Informatics was introduced on our Inpatient Rehab 1 (RH1) unit this past June.

On June 25 th RH1 went live with the trial of Oculys’ new interactive communication board, “stayTrack”.

stayTrack is an electronic system that integrates patient data – pulled from our Health Information Management team – directly with their care and is designed to replace the manually updated white boards that are currently found at Nursing Stations.

With interactive, real time functionality, stayTrack enables the care teams on RH1 to proactively manage our patients’ care, safety considerations and ultimately, their discharge goals to make their transition from hospital to community as smooth as possible.

With its enhanced collaboration and visibility, stayTrack adds tremendous value on RH1 during daily check-in updates with our Local Health Integration Network, as well as during focus discussions as part of weekly inter-professional team rounds.

“It’s a simple user-friendly format for tracking and communicating each patient’s journey in real time,” explains Jill LeGrand, Operations Manager for RH1. “Each discipline has a role to play in entering and verifying the information required to identify where our patients are at in their rehab journey and to understand what challenges or barriers might impede their progress toward discharge.”

As the RH1 trial continues, we hope to eventually extend this technology throughout the rest of our nursing units at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare to give our patients the best possible experience while in our care.
Our People
Happiness is Happening at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare
For nearly twenty years, the month of August has been celebrated as one of the happiest months of the year.

Originally created by the the Secret Society of Happy People, "Happiness Happens" month has expanded across the globe with the goal of spreading joy and good feelings.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare learned about, and started celebrating Happiness Happens month in 2017 by spotlighting Our People who exude happiness.

Due to the the overwhelmingly positive response, we're continuing the tradition by sharing more stories about some of the happiest members of our team.
What better way to kick start our Happiness Happens month than with a member of our HDGH team who has been with our organization for more than 15 years.

Sheila Bennett, Unit Clerk on Inpatient Rehab 3 (RH3), describes herself as a “regular person, doing a regular job”, but those that know her, know that she’s so much more than that.

There is a lot that makes Sheila happy: her great family and energetic grandchildren, her Newfoundland roots, her job – where she’s a part of RH3’s Unit Based Council and the unit that won the 2018 HDGH Team of the Year Award – her fast approaching retirement, and every small sign of aging.

Having survived cancer in 2012, Sheila knows that sometimes it takes a traumatic life event to wake you up and become more appreciative.

“I’ve learned to celebrate every ache and sore muscle because it means I’m still here. Being able to just wake up in the morning then go to work and do what I love, is what makes me the happiest.”

Sheila says the key to staying happy is to leave the bad stuff at the door, approach every situation with a positive outlook, and be grateful for each new day.
Our Identity
The donation of a stress-free education
With summer vacation officially reaching its halfway point, the fast approaching new school year has Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare thinking about helping local children have the best possible start for school this fall.

The fundraiser, initiated by the Working Wellness Group at our Regional Children's Centre (RCC), asks for donations of school supplies with the hope of filling as many backpacks as possible for the children served at RCC; including those receiving Intensive Treatment Services at the Glengarda Building as well as those in our Outpatient programs.

The collection began on July 5th and will run until Friday, August 17th. Any school supplies, including backpacks, are being accepted for all school-aged children, 6 to 16 years old.

If you are interested in supporting our efforts, donations are being accepted in the main lobby our Dr. Fouad Tayfour Regional Rehabilitation Centre and the Dr. Y. Emara Centre for Healthy Aging and Mobility.

Help us make this school year the brightest one yet!
