Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project Is Underway on Liberty St.

The Village has begun its Sanitary Sewer Replacement project to replace nearly one mile of aging sanitary sewer as well as provide storm sewer and roadway improvements in the northeastern quadrant of the Village.

Phase I of the project has already begun on west Liberty Street, west of Hough Street, in coordination with the construction of the new 101 West, a 64-unit luxury residential building. The sewer replacement project will continue east on Liberty across Hough Street beginning in early April, and throughout the spring it will move into the residential neighborhood along Liberty Street. If you live along this route, you may have already seen the preliminary utility markings as the utilities pre-locate their lines in advance of the project.

Throughout the summer the replacement project will continue along Liberty Street to North Avenue, then turn right (south) on North Ave. to Main Street. In mid-July, following the Fourth of July Festivities, Main Street will be closed in this area for approximately four weeks to replace the sewer under Main Street. From there, the project will continue south on Wool Street, and Phase I will end in the North Commuter Parking lot by fall.

The Village’s Director of Development Services Greg Summers and his staff, in conjunction with all Village departments, have worked for two years to plan the project to minimize disruption to Village residents, businesses, and the public as much as possible. All Village residents along the project have been contacted, as have other residents in proximity to the project. If you live or work in this area and would like to receive weekly e-mail updates on the project, please go to http://www.barrington-il.gov/ssrp/notifyme to sign up for weekly email updates.

Luxury Residential Complex Coming to Downtown Barrington

Wondering about that big hole in the ground at the vacant site between the McGrath Volvo dealership and Paul’s Burritos on North Hough Street (former ADCO property)? The Village of Barrington is pleased to announce that in early 2018, this site will be the new home to 101 West, a beautiful, 64-unit residential complex. The low-profile, 3- and 4-story complex is a modern, loft-style design and features amenities including a rooftop terrace, underground parking, community lounge and fitness center. It’s within walking distance of the Village Center and is perfect for young couples, small families, and empty-nesters.

Monroe Residential Partners monroeresidential.com is developing the project. For additional information and unit availability contact Drew Friestedt at [email protected] or go to the www.barrington-il.gov.

Temporary Signs in the Village: What You Need to Know

The Village often receives numerous questions about temporary sign placement along Village streetsThe Village supports your right to display your message, but Village ordinances dictate that temporary signs are allowed on private property only – not in the street right-of-way, which generally extends about 15 feet into your property from the street. Only municipal signs are permitted in the right-of-way.

A good guideline: If you are placing a temporary sign in an area with sidewalks, the sign should be installed behind the sidewalk. If you are placing a temporary sign in an area without sidewalks, the sign should be a placed minimum of 15 feet back from the curb or edge of pavement.  Following this policy ensures everyone a right to communicate their message while protecting the uncluttered appearance of our Village.

Thank You for Your Patience During the Route 14/Hart Road Chemical Spill Incident on March 7-10

We would like to thank our entire community for your patience during the Route 14 shutdown at Hart Road that occurred as a result of a semi-trailer truck crash on March 7. Due to the crash, a chemical substance was leaked onto Route 14 that necessitated the road's closing for several days in order to properly manage the cleanup efforts.

Rest assured that there are no lingering effects from the spill, and the public was never in danger. In addition, our waterways, including the retention pond at the Foundry and nearby Flint Creek, have been declared safe by the Illinois EPA.  Once again, we thank the public, our Foundry merchants, and our first responders for all their efforts in ensuring that this spill was handled properly and with the utmost concern for public safety.  Photo: Bob Chwedyk, Daily Herald.
