A New Year at SRA
SRA Members and Rowers,

Welcome to a new and exciting year at Sammamish Rowing Association! The boathouse is buzzing with activity as our juniors and masters get back on the water. This is my favorite time of the rowing year; with the fall behind us and the spring ahead, we can both reflect and anticipate without the pressure of racing. I find that the best practices often take place in January and February.

It is humbling to reflect on all we accomplished in 2016. Finishing construction on the Hod Fowler Boathouse and celebrating with teammates and friends at the Grand Opening was a truly special experience. I hope you will join me at the annual SRA Gala on February 10 to commemorate an iconic year and lay the foundation for new opportunities in 2017 and beyond. Funds raised at the gala will support new equipment purchases in 2017 and kick off a campaign to overhaul and modernize the entire SRA fleet.

Although the boathouse was quiet over the winter break, SRA's board and staff have been hard at work preparing for 2017. The year ahead will bring exciting changes resulting from your feedback in the annual member survey and from the implementation of SRA's first strategic plan. I encourage all parents and masters rowers to attend the Annual Meeting on January 25 to get an overview of the strategic plan as well as to review SRA's finances and elect the 2017 Board of Directors. As voting members of the SRA community, you play a key role in shaping our future. Participating in the annual meeting is a great way to get involved.

We already have several exciting projects underway for 2017, including:
  • Redesign and growth of the junior recreational program: SRA will put more student-athletes on the water.
  • Launch of a digital independent-rowing-card platform to track and reserve boats in real time: SRA will provide rowing on demand.
  • Development of a comprehensive equipment plan to modernize the fleet: SRA believes that every rower deserves a good boat!
Simply put, over the next year, SRA will focus intensely on creating value for our members. We will strive to offer the absolute best rowing experience for each program and for every rower in our community. I invite you to join me in shaping the future of SRA!

P.S. Remember to mark your calendars, and I'll see you at the Annual Meeting and the Gala.
