A Message from the City Manager

Welcome to the first edition of MV Connect, the City of Mill Valley's twice-monthly eNewsletter. We're excited to have this new way to communicate with you about all that is going on throughout our City.

We've created this email blast as a direct result of the Communications Survey many of you took in May, where you told us that email was the best way for you to stay informed about what's happening in the City. This eNewsletter is also part of a comprehensive community communication strategy which the City Council identified as a Priority Project for 2014-15

Since we initiated our communications strategy earlier this year, we've made a concerted effort to communicate the topics of interest to you, such as traffic, neighborhood development and safety. We hope you've noticed a difference. If you have questions or comments about our communications efforts, please email me at [email protected]. We look forward to your feedback.

We hope you enjoy our first edition of MV Connect!

TRAFFIC & CONSTRUCTION
Get Updates on Local Traffic Conditions

The City of Mill Valley has launched mvtraffic.org to give you a central location for local traffic conditions and updates about local traffic. The website includes a local map showing current conditions (via Google traffic), timely updates from the Police Department's Twitter account, and news about events or projects that are impacting traffic in town.

BUILDING AND NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT
City of Mill Valley Multi-Family Design Guidelines

The City of Mill Valley is creating "Design Guidelines" for multifamily development (such as new apartment buildings or townhouses) and for mixed-use buildings (such as apartments over or next to shops). We would like to know more about your preferences about building and site design. By completing this short survey, you will help us understand what things appeal to you, and what things don't. Your responses will help us create the new guidelines. Click here to take the Visual Preference Survey.

Mill Valley Shopping Bag Ordinance Survey: Tell Us What You Think

Mill Valley's shopping bag ordinance has been in effect at grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores since November 2013, and currently requires these stores to charge five cents for single-use paper bags. The City is interested in collecting feedback from the community about applying the shopping bag ordinance to a larger number of stores and/or increasing the paper bag fee. Based on the recently adopted State law, the City's fee must be increased to at least 10 cents by July 2015.

CRIME AND SAFETY
Recent Mail Thefts and Prevention Tips
The Mill Valley Police Department has received several cases for mail theft this week.  Residents need to protect themselves from mail theft.  Thieves are looking for credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, investment account numbers, gift cards, bank account statements -- anything regarding personal identity and financial gain.  The greatest threat posed by mail theft is the theft of your identity.
