What's Happening!

Welcome to the season of Epiphany which lasts until the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (Feb14). The gospel stories this season describe various events that show the divinity of Jesus, including the wedding at Cana, the calling of the disciples, and various miracles and teachings. On the Last Sunday Jesus' identity as the Son of God is dramatically revealed in the Transfiguration gospel, as well as the gospel of the baptism of Christ

Look Ahead!
Annual Meeting and Potluck Sunday Jan 28
Annual Meeting And Pot Luck—Sunday, Jan 28, after 10am worship
Each year we gather as one big church family to hear reports from the lay and clergy leadership, to thank the outgoing Vestry members, to vote for four new Vestry members, to hear the announcement of a new Senior Warden, to vote for the delegates for the Diocesan Convention, to engage any new business and to appreciate the fellowship of one another.
Please bring your favorite dish and join us for our one of a kind Annual Meeting Pot Luck Lunch.  Sue and Jack Ferme are coordinating the lunch and are counting on our special foods and willingness to help set up, serve, and of course serve! Thank you very much Sue and Jack, and thank each of you in advance for making this pot luck a big success!
Join the Vestry!
Please Consider Being On Vestry
With 2018 comes a rotation of our lay leadership - The Vestry. This year four members will rotate off, and four new ones will be elected. So are you called to be on this governing board? By design, this is the team that works in partnership with the Staff and Rector and visions the future of the parish. This is the team that plans out how we will implement that vision. And, this is the team that helps with the day-to-day business and maintenance of the church.
So what does it take?
-A love for the St. Francis Family
-Ability to work as a team-player
-Monthly Vestry Meeting attendance
-Ability to maintain confidentiality
-Commitment to your spiritual growth
Do you have more questions? Then please speak with our Senior Warden Jennifer Sams or our Rector Paula .
Thank you for your pledges!
And it is not too late to turn them in if you haven’t already done so. The pledges are the basis for our operating budget to support our mission and ministries.
Designs For Dining 2018
Friday March 2
With the holidays behind us, our annual, "Designs for Dining" event is less than 2 months away. This is our once a year fundraiser for our outreach college scholarships. We have helped so many students obtain a college degree.
We have a new applicant from West High School in Torrance, an excellent student. She is a foster child. We hope to continue our mission but help is needed.
Our next meeting is Thursday, January 11 at 10:30 am in the Boardroom. New to the Parish? Events are a great way to meet other parishioners and help is much appreciated. We have fun too!

You can also help from home by either calling or emailing. Also, some computer assistance is needed. Help for even 1 hour a week would be greatly appreciated.
If you could help in any way, please email or call Cheryl Gutierrez , (310) 791-7038.
Food and Friends Groups Forming
Food & Friends Groups Forming
Whether you are new to St. Francis or have been a long-time member, if you are interested in getting to know others in our faith community over sharing meals together, please consider joining a "Food & Friends" group. We will organize groups of 6-10 for various life stages and schedule availability. Groups will meet once a month in people's homes or at St. Francis (potlucks), or restaurants. Please contact Rev. Peter if you are interested. There will also be sign-ups on Sunday January 21st after both services.
Joseph - Dawn Unity discussion Tues Jan 9
“Joseph” - Dawn Unity Interfaith
Tuesday January 9, 7:30pm
Joseph’s life is full of ups and downs as he grows in importance. Was he arrogant in telling his brothers they would bow to him or simply demonstrating his power to see the future? Was he the savior of the Egyptian people or a crafty bureaucrat enriching the Pharaoh? Rev. Jonathan Chute, Rolling Hills United Methodist Church; Prof. Amir Hussain, LMU; Rev. Reinhard Krauss, UCLA; and Rabbi Brian Schuldenfrei, Congregation Ner Tamid will analyze a very interesting life. Bob Rothman is the Moderator. The program is free to the community. For more info call (310) 833-7008.
