Too Big to Throw Away Yourself? Let Us Help!
As the seasons change and it warms up in North Texas, the City of Plano wants to remind you about general property maintenance. If you are cleaning out and plan to dispose of large or bulky trash, check out the free collection dates for your neighborhood here . If you miss your collection day, Environmental Waste Services offers a paid collection service. The service costs $10.00 per square yard and the charge is added to your water utility bill. Residents living in designated areas participating in the “ON CALL SCHEDULED BULKY COLLECTION” pilot areas will continue to call customer service to schedule collections. To learn more about paid collection, the bulky collection pilot areas, or any other services provided by Environmental Waste Services please call their customer service line at (972) 769-4150 or visit them online here .
Protect Your Home from Mosquitoes
The hot summer months also bring mosquitoes! Help reduce the mosquito population by taking a few simple steps around your home. Walk around your property and survey items that are out in the open. Items like empty planters, plant saucers, buckets, and anything that may hold water can create a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Drain standing water on a regular basis and move other items into a shed, your garage, or another enclosed building. Learn more about preventing mosquitoes here . Items stored outside might also violate the City of Plano’s Open Storage Ordinance. Learn more about Open Storage in Article 19 of the Zoning Ordinance .

Pool season is around the corner and kids will soon be out of school for the summer. Make sure your pool is secure with a self-latching gate, and that your fence is in good repair with no openings larger than 4 inches. Stagnant, green, or unmaintained pool water can also cause mosquito problems. If you see an unmaintained pool in your neighborhood that may be breeding mosquitoes, contact Environmental Health & Sustainability at (972) 941-7143.
Help Us Improve Housing
The City of Plano is committed to responding and adapting to the needs of our residents. To ensure that Plano’s housing market accommodates all segments of our population, the City is developing a Housing Trends Analysis and Strategic Plan. The analysis will identify gaps in housing needs by both type and size, with consideration given to the income level needed to obtain various types of housing. This information will help Plano prepare for future growth and guide community investment to attract the type of strategic development that aligns with our current and future housing needs. How can you help? We need your input! Click here to learn more and take the housing survey for a chance to win a Visa gift card valued between $25-$100. Visit www.plano.gov/housingplan now through September to see survey results and stay updated on project progress.

Community Development Week Celebrated
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) programs were celebrated across the country during National Community Development Week, April 1-7. As part of the week’s festivities, the Mayor issued a proclamation, and the City hosted a Non-Profit Executive Roundtable and a Fair Housing Symposium. At the Roundtable event, local non-profit leaders brainstormed challenges, best practices, and solutions related to current community needs; specifically focusing on dental care, transportation, and job training. The culminating event was the Fair Housing Symposium, where attendees learned from expert speakers about the Fair Housing Act, tenant rights, and how to search for affordable housing. Check out this link for materials from the event.
