September 2015 Newsletter

According to conservative estimates published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, iatrogenic illness is the third-leading case of death in the United States.  More than 120,000 people die from adverse effects of prescribed medications each year. (Starfield 2000)  In Null, et al, 2003 it is reported that iatrogenic illness is actually the leading cause of death in the United States and that adverse reactions to prescription drugs are responsible for more that 300,000 deaths per year.

Over the past several years, while maintaining a private practice, Dr. Rosen has traveled nationally and internationally teaching SOT® Chiropractic and Pediatrics. In an attempt to make his teachings more available to the chiropractic profession he has complied a series of DVD's and manuals of his work. These DVD's and manuals are a compilation of years of teaching and lecturing. It is his intention to keep the work of Major DeJarnette, DC alive, and forever available to chiropractors. He is also dedicated to giving chiropractors the tools and skills necessary to take care of children and to inspire them to expand this branch of chiropractic.

Over the past 34 years Dr. Rosen has taught pediatrics, craniopathy, SOT, practice management and chiropractic philosophy nationally and internationally to thousands of chiropractors and chiropractic students.

While lecturing and teaching to chiropractors and the public he has compiled thousands of hours of presentations on chiropractic technique, research and evidence based protocols. His unique approach to chiropractic and the care of the pediatric population is evidenced in his published books, DVDs and professional articles.

Currently, besides his own seminar programs, he is teaching for the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association (ICPA) as part of their advanced certification program.

Welcome,

As the summer comes to an end the pace of our lives tends to increase and additional stresses on our nervous and immune systems prevail.  Driving kids to school and activities, working more, multi-tasking and increased daily management, decreased outdoor activities, dietary changes and different environmental stresses (indoor and outdoor allergens) all contribute these increased demands on our immune and nervous systems.  During this time it is of primary importance to have your nervous system and spine checked so that you can more easily cope with this increased stress threshold

We at Wellesley Chiropractic Office offer specialized chiropractic and nutritional care for all ages.  Our techniques have been proven safe and effective for over 32 years.  If you have a healthcare issue, or you just want to perform and function at your best, we are here to help you reach your goals.  If you would like more information or to schedule and appointment please contact our office.

Sincerely,
Martin Rosen, Nancy Watson and Erin Rosen DCs

Why Choose Chiropractic Care for Your Children's Immune System's Health

Martin Rosen, DC

The Immune system consists of the tonsils, adenoids, thymus, bone marrow, spleen, appendix, Peyer's patches, lymph nodes, and circulating white blood cells.  The job of the immune system is to protect and defend the body against infection from disease-producing microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites that live in our environment.  This system is the body's main defense mechanism against disease.

The Nervous system is responsible for controlling the function of all systems, organs, tissues and cells in the body and maintaining them in an optimum state of operation.

NERVE ENDINGS ARE FOUND IN THE TISSUES
OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM.
The central nervous system is linked to both the bone
marrow and thymus, where immune system cells are
produced and developed and to the spleen and
lymph nodes, where those cells are stored.

CHANGES IN THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
ALTER IMMUNE RESPONSES AND TRIGGERING
AN IMMUNE RESPONSE ALTERS CENTRAL
NERVOUS SYSTEM ACTIVITY.
Researchers have found that inducing an immune
response causes nerve cells in the hypothalamus to
become more active and the brain cell activity
peaks at precisely the same time that levels of
antibodies are at their highest. The brain monitors
immunological changes closely.

Chiropractic is the only profession that specializes in the detection and correction of interferences/subluxations to the nervous system's functional potential and organizational proficiency.  Disruptions to the normal neurological functional capability of the nervous system globally affect a child's health and innate capacity.  Once these subluxations are removed your child has the greatest opportunity to express their full potential - physically, emotionally and mentally.

Nutrition Corner - Defend Against Environmental Stress - Allergies

"When dealing with most immune challenges and toxicities think in terms of how to enhance "drainage to help the body eliminate accumulated poisons/waste products.  It is vital to facilitate "drainage" keeping the channels of elimination open to help the body eliminate accumulated poisons/waste products and reduce occurrence of uncomfortable "cleansing/allergic reactions (e.g.: achiness, severe congestion, swelling, headaches, malaise, etc.)."  Dr. Fred Ulan

Allergies, environmental or food related, are the body's overreaction to substances that under "normal" circumstances are harmless to a healthy immune and nervous system.  The body, due to reaching a toxic/stress threshold sees the allergen as an invasive substance and attacks it as if it were harmful to the health and well-being of the organism.  If the allergen was truly harmful then everyone would react to it in the same manner.  For example, a foreign virus when entering the body is mitigated by the release of antibodies to destroy it.  The symptomatology involved in this process can be similar to an allergic reaction.  This is a normal, natural process.  On the other hand a non-toxic substance, such as pollen for example, can effect some people dramatically and others not at all.  The reason for this is often due to the compensatory state of one person's immune and nervous system.  A nervous system under stress has a lower reactivity threshold and therefore may overreact to situations that a less stressed system can deal with more efficiently and less reactively.  The same is true of the immune system.  If the body's organ systems are stressed due to toxic overloads adding even a seemingly innocuous substance to the body can cause the systems to overreact due to the lowered adaptive thresholds, hence an "allergic" reaction to the substance occurs.

Chiropractic adjustments are known to increase the nervous and immune systems adaptability by reducing the stress on the systems by reducing aberrant neurological input, increasing threshold tolerances and creating a state of ease within these systems.  At the same time nutritional support may be useful to help reduce and support long term chronic toxic buildup and allow the nervous and immune systems to reset themselves to a more balanced state.

We at Wellesely Chiropractic office, along with our regular chiropractic care, offer
specific allergy reduction protocols as well as nutritional consultations.  If you are interested speak to Drs. Rosen or Watson.

Defend Against Environmental Stresses

21 Day Purification Program
We are constantly exposed to numerous chemical and environmental toxins.  The toxins build up in the body and can cause a variety of symptoms and dysfunctions including:
  • Fatigue and difficulty sleeping
  • Indigestion and other gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Congestion
  • Inflammation
  • Weight gain
  • Decreased mental clarity
  • Decreased libido
  • Loss of or drier hair
  • Acne
  • Allergies
  • Etc.
Treating these symptoms individually instead of a part of the whole limits the response.  If several of the above issues ring true for you, using the seasonal transition from cold to the warmer weather of Spring to begin cleansing your body can promote the release of toxins and promote healing.

The 21 Day Purification Program is not just another diet or quick detox.  By following this program you can create a transition to a new way of eating resulting in a variety of lifestyle changes and healing capabilities.  Eating an abundance of fresh vegetables and fruits on a regular basis along with exercise support your bodies' ability to fight disease and maintain health.

If you are interested in more information or would like to begin the purification program please ask one of our doctors or staff.

*We also have available a 10-day cleanse for those who want a less intense program.

Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health - Chiropractic ~ Volume 2015 ~ Issue 1 ~ Pages 51-70

Abstract

Objective: To provide a comprehensive analysis of the current body of scientific literature regarding the chiropractic management of a wide variety of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Methods: A literature search was performed using PubMed, MANTIS, the Index to Chiropractic Literature, McCoy Press, Galileo, and ScienceDirect. Inclusion criteria consisted of full-text peer-reviewed articles written in English as they related to the efficacy of chiropractic management of neurodevelopmental disorders.

Results:  51 articles were selected.  The results were: Three Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT), 7 Reviews of Literature, three Case Series, 34 Case Studies and three Survey/Commentaries.

Conclusion:  The majority of articles dealt specifically with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and were predominantly case studies.  The chiropractic community should see this as a call to action to provide more research regarding neurodevelopmental disorders.
