Greetings!

The merry month of May sees us in full swing preparing the nine National productions that will feature as part of YMT's summer of New Musical Theatre. And we are delighted that joining us in the enterprise is new Patron, Jean Diamond, perhaps the most experienced and well known of West End theatrical agents and, through Diamond Management, representative for a host of theatre artists. Jean will be heading up our new Heart of the Industry funding campaign as well as representing YMT at public events.

Our two pop/rock musicals by Elliot Davis and James Bourne are now on sale - Out There at Riverside Studios and  Loserville at West Yorkshire Playhouse . More details below and a discounted ticket rate for Out There until 20th May.

Terry Pratchett's Mort is on sale at the Rose Theatre Kingston in late August and our other productions in Plymouth (Project Cuba and The Seventh Muse), Halifax (According to Brian Haw), Bracknell (Macbeth and Tess of the D'Urbervilles), Edinburgh (The Vortex) and Aberdeen (Nikki and the Gang) will all be on sale within a week. Over 300 young people selected from auditions will be taking part.

For those who missed auditions, we have four Skills workshop courses on subjects as varied as the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (Godalming, Surrey) , themes from Tom's Midnight Garden (Kingston University), a musical approach to Durrenmatt's The Visit (Hemel Hempstead, Herts) and a fresh look at Farce (Edinburgh).

With so much on, it's worth pointing out that none of this could be achieved without the help from our principal funders: in England, Youth Music and Arts Council England for their NYMO and Sustain funding; in Scotland, Creative Scotland; and, UK-wide, the country's largest teacher's union, the NASUWT. In addition, of course, we have wonderful support from a small army of trusts, corporate members and individual donors.

Next month we will be providing  a full list of all performance times and venues but, as ever, you can also find the latest up to date information on our website. Meanwhile, with some staff leaving and others arriving, we have taken the opportunity to offer you the complete staff list below.

Best wishes,

Jean Diamond - new YMT Patron supports Heart of the Industry

For over thirty years, Jean Diamond (right) has been at the heart of the UK's theatre industry, one of theJean Diamond best known of the West End's theatrical agents offering tireless encouragement to new talent and established names. Starting in the film industry with MGM as a casting director, she soon moved to theatre and established the world-renowned London Management which, over a period of over twenty years, became one of the biggest artists' talent agencies in London. More recently, Jean decided to establish a new, smaller and bespoke agency, Diamond Management, which represents artists within all aspects of the industry, while still retaining her links with London Management.

Jean decided to join YMT after seeing our 2009  production of Korczak
in which her client Peter Straker was performing the title role: "Seeing Korczak at the Rose Theatre in Kingston with Peter and those young people really left me in a  state of awe at their performances. So I was very flattered to be asked to be a Patron and to do what I could to help YMT. It's an exciting time with so many new productions and young creative artists to support."

Heart of the Industry is a fundraising scheme designed to help YMT's larger productions reach London and major regional audiences and offers both the young people and the creative staff wider exposure. The scheme is supported by funding from Youth Music and Arts Council England whose partnership funding adds a further 75% to the value of donations. For further information please call YMT's Head of Development, Dorothy Warner, on 07796 446 287 or send her an email.

Loserville - special ticket offer for first preview

We would like to invite you to the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds on Monday 18th June, to watch the show, and join us afterwards in the bar for celebratory drinks with the cast and crew. We have a special ticket price of only £22 available through YMT for current participants, alumni, parents, supporters and friends. This includes your ticket and a complimentary drink (or two!) and nibbles, plus the opportunity to mingle with the writers, producers, creative team and cast after the show!
